If I'm going to pay $5K or more, it's going to be at least a 3.2. 964 3.6s are currently going for @$6K... All the 3.0s Ive seen are @ $3.5-4K for a rebuilt one.

No one has brought up the ugly head stud issue... I've had two 3.0 engines, drove them both before pulling from the cars.

They ran great, started easily, little to no smoke at startup, none at all when running. Ran good and strong. One was a documented 82,000 mile engine and the other was a 150,000

Two broken headstuds on one, three on the other. It was the low miles one that had 3 broken headstuds.

Just something to think about. 150k on the clock running with no broken head studs is worth more to most of us than a low miles engine with three broken ones...

Agreed, and I thought everyone was in sync with was head studs, although the 3.0 was less affected than it's predescesors, it is still alive and well, any professional PPI will determin if a head stud issue is exististing from 2.0 through 3.2's as well as valve issues. I have a 3.0 with only 21K, I consistanly have all issues addressed as to possible stud problems, that is why I would prefer a higher milage car over a very low milage car, 3.0 and 3.2 both have stud problems and added for the 3.2 is the valve problems. Prior to these engines 2.7 and back have only added to everyones despair, find a good rust free example, with a professional PPI on the entire vehicle, and you'll be happy for years. Look at it as a positive, a car simply lasting well over 30 plus years and still runs and gives you pleasure is something no other car mfg. has ever given anyone, and don't forget they are still competeitive with today's cars, in their own way.

I will soon be selling a '78 3L engine, runs fine, unknown history, but has at least one broken head stud. It is currently in a car and again, runs fine. I am representing it as nothing more than a core 3L engine. I will ask $3K. If someone offers me something less, I will consider the offer. If the offer is nowhere near $3K, I will bid them good luck in their shopping.

I am also about to sell a '79 Euro 911, with somewhere near 150K on the clock, with no broken head studs. Otherwise, unknown condition. Runs fine. I will ask $9,900. Manual windows. Carrera tail and chin spoiler. Fog lights inside the valence. Poor respray, but the car looks fairly stunning from a small distance. Very bright silver.

wayyyyy to many other variables. I like to be fair in pricing while parting out my dead red car an '82 SC.

I don't gouge people but try to get a "fair" market value.........and often times that "market" is different in all sections of the USA, and worldwide for that matter.

Add up the receipts, rolls the magic dice, come up with a number, then negotiate.

Rusty is very fair with his prices, perhaps too fair, he sold all the good stuff before i got a chance! :D

So far in my looking (including a wtb ad in the classifieds) a decent running core can NOT be had for under 3K, at least not without several broken head studs. Prices seem to be $3-4K, and those are not necessarily problem free (1 or more broken head studs, leaks, CIS issues, etc).

Again, if anyone has a decent running core with no broken head studs and little or no leaks for under 3K (even without CIS), let's hear about it!
