Thread chasing die for oil thermostats
I have been online checking for a die for chasing the threads on oil thermostats or coolers. It's a 1.5 pitch, and the outside diameter measures about 30mm. Can't seem to find that size. Even the supply houses that sell this stuff exclusivley. I'm sure this subject has been solved by this resourceful board. Any help out there?

Just get a thread file, they work very well.

I have a thread file. A die would be easier and quicker. I'm in the bussiness so I
have more than one in a great while to do. After 30 years with a thread file, I thought I would step up! |

The machinist I went to had to look up a book to find a die that big. They do make it though and it would have cost him over $100. Keep looking.

You may be able to find a die but you want a thread chaser not a die.

You'd certainly have to contact a tool and die shop to fabricate a special order. $100-$125 for sure; but if you use it consistently, it will probably save you money (spelled t i m e) in the long run.

A google search shows this supplier in Maryland - http://www.britishmetrics.com/
They don't post the price of the 30x1.5 die chaser on-line though. Looks like you'll have to call them.
