3.6 Conversion Questions – Flywheel weight & DME pin out.

Hi, I am after some advice from those who have already done this.

I have got hold of a 97 ROW Varioram engine that intend to install in my 84 3.2 after the summer. I have searched and read the various threads, but have not found the specific answers I am looking for.

Flywheel weight.

I am all for a lively free revving engine, but don’t want one that is difficult in traffic. The conversion flywheels look to be a lot lighter than stock and I am wondering if in practice they are too light. From research the weights look to be:

993 manual double mass flywheel 30Lb
993 GT2 lightweight double mass flywheel 19Lb
993 Carrera RS lightweight single mass flywheel 12Lb
Patrick conversion flywheel 9.6Lb
Timmins conversion flywheel around 7.6Lb

So how do you find it works in practice and did you use a chip to deal with the idle reaction time?

DME/ECU Pin out

I did not get the DME to engine wiring harness with the engine and may try to make my own up by using the plugs and sockets off an E36 BMW, which look to be the same and can be got very cheaply. I have one on the way to check out if this is an option.

I have seen the pin out diagram of the 55 pin plug, but I am not sure this is for a Varioram, non Varioram, or if they were both the same. Anyone know for sure?

Also does anyone have a detailed wiring diagram for this?

Thanks in advance.
Mark

I've use both Patrick and Timmons, the difference isn't worth mentioning.

Do you have the RoW vram DME? or a US '95 DME?

Here is the pin assignments for RoW vram

As you can see from the '95 pin out you posted, there are 3 rows 1-19, 20-37 and 38 -55

The RoW uses what was the US SAI (pin32) for the resonance flap and the US '95 resonance flap pin(1) for the RoW vram actuation

Of course you need a RoW complianbt chip to run it.

Alternately you can get an RS DME which uses a slightly different scheme.
