1st gear and main shaft 75-78
The 1st gear and main shaft for a 1975 915 seems to have a different part number (915.302.901.05) than a 1978 (915.302.921.04) (also .14). Both are the same ratio of 11:35.
Can the 1975 1st and main shaft be used in a 1978? I need to replace mine because 1st gear is very worn. Or if anyone has one for a 1978 I'd be interested. Thanks.

The early 915 mainshaft and 1st gear can be used, but the later one was redesigned a bit and is stronger and more durable. Find a late one if you can.

The SC M/S is stronger, and the loose gear (gear w/synchro) uses the asymetrical dog teeth. You want to find a 1st/mainshaft from either a 915/61 (yours; 1977-79) or a 915/63 (1980-83). Even a 3.2 Carrera will work for you...
