How to inspect ring gear and pinion in 915 transaxle

I am wanting to pull the side cover in order to inspect the pinion and ring gear in a 915 transaxle. I have ran the numbers 915/61 719 0897 and it seems it is a 1978 ?

Anyways I would like to get a idea on the condition of the pinion and gears.

If I remove the driver side flange and cover will I be able to see the pinion and gears? I also dont want to disturb the gears any gear setup in the process as I will not know how to set up gears properly but just want to inspect to see if there is any damage inside.

The trans has been sitting in my garage and i have never used it in a vehicle or shifted it so I dont know the condition yet.

You'll see the back of the diff carrier. Remove the other drive flange and lift the unit out for inspection.

Order a couple new axle flange seals and a sidecover o-ring. And then just pull them off the way John said. You won’t disturb any major by it.

Awesome guys. I will dig into it tomorrow and report back what I find and maybe you can provide some input as to condition.
