strange problem fixed
1982 sc drove home one day last week parked in garage. next am no start. turned over (although a little sluggish) would not fire. checked for spark, no spark. checked green wire. found the terminal broken into pieces. tested the cd ign. module with 1.5 volt battery found it to work with good spark. pulled dist checked resistance at hall coil 600 ohm. put dist in with new wire still no spark. headlights strong horn strong, wipers worked good, figure battery ok. check voltage drop while cranking, voltage drop to + 5 volts. no enough to fire the cd ign. replaced battery started right up!!!!!

Pretty much same thing happened to me a few years back. Went crazy trying to find out what was wrong. Turned over fine, lights worked, etc. Finally someone here said to replace the battery. I thought yeah, right. Had nothing to loose and was getting fed up, put in new battery and fired right up.

I just printed that out and put it in the Bentley manual! How about a reference thread of simple suggestions to a seemingly complex issues.

In my experience, if the battery is weak the engine will crank slowly. I've never heard of a situation where there's no spark but normal cranking speed.

i've been a mechanic for 30 years i had never seen it before either.
