Lic Plt Bulb Holder Not Fastened

Hi All -
My 74 911 has small Bumperettes with a Lic Plate bulb in each bumperette.. My problem is the Lic Plate Bulb Holder will not stay screwed in. I thought there would be some threaded inserts in the holes but it looks like just holes in the rubber and nothing else. I'm thinking of seating the screws in a dab of JB Weld and remove the screws once it has hardened. Maybe the threads will form as I unscrew them? That's my plan at least.

I have a set of Metric Taps and dies if that doesn't work. Is this a good approach? Everytime I drive it, I get home and find the screws have walked out almost all the way. Haven't lost any yet but it will happen soon.

Any other ideas?

TIA!

JB is worth a shot. Might try it on one screw first.

Should be speed nuts clipped over the inner metal frame of the bumper pad for the self-tapping screws to thread into.

Thanks for posting that image! What model year is that from? I've been searching the Parts Cat for the 74-77 911's and so far nothing has appeared. I will continue tomorrow. Is that from your 89 Targa? Actually, this is about all I can coax from the Parts Catalog. Don't know if anything is going to show up. When I try to copy part of the image it doesn't act like it wants to appear here.
;-( I'm sure they have reasons, but life would be easier of that would allow people to copy/paste pieces of the cars.

But I have taken the Lic Plt light off several times and haven't see any framework for the

Lic Plt Bulb Holder not Fastened

Thisis all I get from my Porsche Parts Cat. Actually this is from the 78-82 Cat because the one for my 74 would only allow me to extract a small piece of the image.

Anyway, I'll take the bumperette off and see if I can find something to attach a speednut to.

Thx again!

The metal plates for the speed nuts often rust away. Go to Buy & Sell and search for "bumperettes". You should be able to find lots of photos of the insides.

So this is interesting: Euro bumperettes with lights $75 each

The insides of the Euro bumperettes are much different than the USA versions. Looks like there is a cavity that makes it almost impossible to get to the speed nuts and metal plate from the inside.

Hmmm.... Thanks Mark! It's been a few years since I removed them for a repaint but that's exactly what mine look like! My 911 is a 74 that I always thought was a uS version. I have the info sheet from the factory and it doesn't say it's a Euro. I'll have to find a way to check this out. I wonder why they'd make the Euro and US bumperettes differently? Seems it would be to their advantage to make as many parts as possible, identical?

Yeah, good question. Maybe related to the force they need to withstand. The smaller Euro bumperettes might need a different internal structure for strength?

Turn 9,
US bumperettes changed to the fat ones in 75.
74 had the narrow ones that remained on the Euro cars.
Yours are correct.
