Paint code request
 

Hello,
I'm trying to find a name for paint code 447-9-3 on a 76 911. Any suggestions?

Select Porsche in the manufacturer menu and then put in the # and you get your confirmation and a sample color.

Thanks Tony but I tried paintscratch (and the rest of the web) already and came up with ziltch

According to my copy of the red book there is no "447" listed either as a standard color or as a special order color.

I see a 443 as a Copper Brown Metallic and a 474 (78-83) as a Rosewood Metallic

Could this possibly be a RoW or a grey market car? Maybe that would explain why the number isn't in the book.

I have the same tag, but mine is in the trunk, on the passenger side, towards the front near the light. I took the 5 digit code to the dealer and they could not find it. My car was bought new in the U.S (Porsche/Audi of Manhattan)

BTW, the word above the code is German for synthetic varnish.

I did a search on the Glasurit site for 447 and got nothing. I had earlier found the code for my car, 432, a 1974 911, and got a hit. I had to leave off the "-9-3", also on my paint tag, in order to find the paint color. Here is the link:

It is not in any of my lists, so that qualifies it to go into my custom list. It may be a unique color, or just very rare. Getting a COA on the car might be useful, or at least see if PCNA can come up with anything on the paint. Surely for some of these custom colors they would have information needed for repainting. This one is definitely in the browns; the 9 indicates Porsche built, and the 3 is for Herberts paint (that is why you won't get a hit on Glasurit site.)

Note that my paint code also has a 3, but I got a hit on the Glasurit site.

My advice is don't waste your money on a COA. My COA from Porsche says the original paint on my '74 was Silver Metallic, when the paint tag is plainly stamped 432 or Copper Brown Metallic.

Jim, in many cases of standard or optional colors, the paint could be supplied by several vendors. When you get into the custom colors, that is usually not the case. Without a lot more data I cannot say what colors were supplied exclusively by one supplier. Many colors would not look exactly the same if they came from different suppliers. If your COA is not correct, then have them correct it, that should cost nothing since they made the mistake. If you need help in that, please contact me.

Thanks for the offer of help with PCNA. However, I have emailed them in accordance with the letter I received with the COA, informing them of the errors. One month and no answer. So I called them, and to make a long story short enough to tell here without me getting my knickers in a knot all over again, I was told that if they had made a mistake they would refund my money. Another month, and no reply. They don't appear to know how to correct the errors, nor to be in the least bit interested in making a refund.

I suppose I could have told them what to type in, but that would defeat the purpose of trying to find what their records say. They also had no record of the transmission number.

Needless to say, PCNA is not high on my list of folks I will contact again with any Porsche needs. It appears that if they don't have prospects of selling you a new car, they don't have much of a reason to help you out. But of course, Your Mileage May Vary........

Below is a photo of the '74, but it's not going to help regarding the paint color issue. The current paint is not original. At least it's not Copper Brown Metallic OR Silver Metallic. Traces of what I believe was Copper Brown Metallic appear in the engine compartment where the sound deadener has come off; that's the only place where any trace of what might be the original color can be found.

Does anyone know what L999 YZ stands for? I can't find this color match either. I was told by Previous owner it was champagne. Who do you contact at Porsche for vehicle history?

does anyone know where these is a list of all the colour codes for the 911's over the years?
