Reality check, tires

This is more of a reality check than the beginning of another tire thread. After a search on Tirerack.com and the BBS it looks like my best bet for a new set of rubber are the Hankook RS2s. My car is a weekend driver with some DE's use. This is what tire rack has available:

I think my local guy can get these but before I send him off any remarks given the sizes I need (8 and 9 x 16 in Fuchs). The image cut off the details on the Sumi's but I haven't seen anything here that would recommend those. Plenty like the Hankooks. Something else I should be looking at? Not a lot to choose from in the 16in size.

I got the fusions and so far I love the way they perform for the money. I only can give a street opinion though, no track experience with them......yet!

Jeff, I am running Hankook RS-2's on my car and have been very pleased with them. My first time at Grattan last year with my 911 I ran in the 97-98 second lap range with an essentially stock carrera. If you know Stefan (elbow), he was running in the 95-second lap range on R-compounds with his carrera coupe. I was running 205/55R16 and 225/50R16 tires. This year I've put the 7's on the front with 205/55R16 and 8's on the rear with 245/45R16 RS2's.

I think Bill V. makes a good point though, if the car will see a lot of track use RA1's would be a good compromise. If you plan on more street miles go with the Hankooks, you won't be disappointed.

This would have to be the biggest motivation for 17 inch Fuchs replicas.

Kinda sucks to be honest.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the same size tires. I am trying to decide between the Hankook and Fuzions.

Because he (and I) are running 8's in the front.

I just ordered Hankooks I will post once I get them on the car. For a brief time I had RA1s on the car. One thing that was driving me nuts with RA1s was that they were so sticky that they were throwing stones all over the wheel wells and body. They also did not seem very sticky when cold.

MikeV. You bring back alot of memories mentioning Grattan. Tracked my Ducati there for years. I'll have to get the Porsche up there this summer. Oh yeah, know Stefan.

I didn't realize this last night while I was surfing tirerack's site but the Toyo's are available in the 225/50ZR16 and 245/45ZR16 sizes. For a weekend driver with a few track days, these just to soft?

They're pricey too.

i am running the sumitomo tires, i only paid under $300 for the set shipped to my door(from tirerack). They are super sticky, and offer great performance.

Jeff, I used to think Gingerman was a great track, then I drove at Grattan. The elevation changes and blind apexes make it a lot of fun! Let me know if you head up there this summer. Some of us Michigan guys are trying to goad Stefan, Kevin and some others to come out for a east-meets-west showdown. :-)

I'm all over that. Especially if you need a back marker!
