Anyone had this happen?

85 Targa.. So I'm driving home, having driven about 30 miles.. everything is just purring.. I'm in 4th going about 50 and next thing the pedal is dead. Engine at idle, stepping on it does not bring the rpm up.. I put in the clutch and drop it into 3rd and take off. I pulled over and it was as if nothing happened. I went into a store came out and drove home and it did it again. Cruising in 4th and after a minute or two.. dead. Put it in 5th and kept going, back in 4th just fine, 3rd going away, back in 4th fine.. I'm heading out for a drive now to see if it happens again..

Any Idea's? All the fluids are fine, no power spikes to speak off. What could it have been?

Just a WAG but have you checked your throttle linkage from pedal back to the engine?
