outer CV boot
The outer boots on both of my cv joints are ripped. Is it possible to replace the outer boots, I know I can replace the inner boots. Also, how can I tell if my CV joints are shot. my car is a 1988 911 3.2 G50 trans.
Thank you, |
I replaced the outer boots on mine so yes it's possible. I also went ahead and did the inners while I was at it.

Check this thread out. I did this with my car. Not hard, just really messy:cool:

I didn't read that thread, but shortly after acquiring my car (46K miles on her at the time) many years ago, I had an outer boot with a small tear, so I decided to go ahead and replace all 4 boots, while repacking all 4 CVs and inspecting them in the process. The traditional way on the G50s is to remove the inner CV joint, and slide the outer boot down the shaft, hence my decision to do them all. At that mileage, all of my CV joints appeared just like new, no pits, mars, perfect...so after a messy, but doable DIY job, I knew I was set for a good long time. Good luck, and somehow I just know you have a beautiful car without even seeing a pic!

One of the best colors IMHO. Just like Keith says the car has to look great. :D
