Guard LSD, how does it benefit the car under braking?
I just put a Guard LSD in my gearbox, along with some shorter gears. The car is fun, fun. It "appears" to brake in shorter distances? Is that rear or is the rear end just more stable?
Can someone chime in an 'splain to me? wj

Mean to say, Is that real or is the rear end just more stable under braking?

Yes, a Guard LSD will give large benefits under braking and corner entry. It acts as if the rear axle is solid (left and right rears must travel at same speed), so there is far less wiggle and squirming under braking, which gives shorter braking distances and more stability, which also leads to more driver confidence and faster laptimes. Because of the LSD, there is also less tendency for one of the rear wheels to lock under hard braking (since the wheel which would tend to lock is kept at the same rotational velocity as the other wheel). An LSD is a huge benefit in these and the more obvious ways (corner exit and uneven friction surfaces from right to left sides of the car, etc.).

As GrantG said, with the rear locked up to a certain degree under decel (can be hard decel without using the brakes) the back of the car is more linear. Especially true if you tend to trail brake into a turn as I do in certain types of turns. The tradeoff can be greater push in low speed (2nd gear) turns under hard accel.
When I installed the Guard in my '86 I set it for 50/80 (50% lockup on accel and 80% on decel) and it really stabilized the car. Most noticable at places like VIR where you have to decel from 130+ into a turn 1, a tight 2nd gear turn.

In addition to his rear-end, JackMan just got his car back from a front-end repaint & it looks fantastic. Maybe he will post a pic for all to enjoy.

Yeah, yeah .... I'll get some pixs up today. Hopefully the pixs will do the paint justice. I had the front end resprayed, new windshield installed, some headliner work done, and some other odds and ends, and had the rest of the paint buffed with rubbing compound. Wow.
