Great photos. Take a look at the size of the rear window (third shot down). All you see is the rear view mirror. What an amazing car.

I can find a number of 917 replica kits on the Web, but nothing called a "Memorex." Can you provide a URL, Keiffner? Love to learn more about it. Nothing on the Patrick site either...

dearest steve, back in the 70's memorex was corporation that sold tape. as in reel to reel and cassette tape. one of their advertising campaigns had different artists sing into "brand "X" tape and then into memorex's tape. the object of the very popular ad campaign was to see if "brand X" or memorex's tape could shatter fine crystal glasses at high volume. also they had the artist sing high notes live and break the crystal glass. when memorex's tape would be played back, the crystal would shatter showing the world how good of sound quality memorex tape had.

the slogan was "IS IT LIVE OR IS IT MEMOREX?"

well as you can realize this 917 isnt real. it is DEJA VU or maybe VU-JA-DAY depending on what kind of day your having..................................anyway it ISNT REAL! so you could call it memorex. it is a kit from australia. and if my feeble memory serves me well, the name of the company might be LAZER or LASER.

what they basically did was to take all the data of the ill handling, cantankerous, widow maker chassis and up dated it with 35 year new high techno stuff. these 917's in various configs had some very VIERD HANDLING TRAITS. the evolution of the aerodynamics was somewhat of an ever changing weekly, daily thing. just look at all the older pics and each and everyone had some minor if not major aero changes. this company updated everything. carbon fiber this carbon fiber that etc etc und so weiter.

i havent a clue what this cost. a fair guess would be maybe more than a hell of alot! i have watched its build since they received the kit from what i hear in fairly completed form, sans engine und tranny. arrived L.A. early jan. and was flatbed trucked to phx. where der uber wunder kinder put their lil german elf hats on and beat feet in 3 months to complete since its delivery.

to watch this mixed up in status quo PCA DE traffic at firebird was to say the least....WAYYYYY COOOL!

and you thought the slippery slope ended!

Ah, yes, the Laser kit--I know it well. Didn't get the Memorex joke, though I remember the commercials clearly (no pun). But you kids are so much sharper than I am--I'll be 73 next month. Wire recorders are more my thing, but Chaz, that'd be before you were born.

That car is in no way shape or form, one of those old Laser kits that were built on Beetle platforms

http://www.laser917.com/who_we_are.html

The car pictured is a true tube frame copy of the 917..instead of a flat 12.. it uses a flat six for power

now dont quote me on lazer and laser. i just heard that. usually when i go into patricks im picking up or dropping off crap. somewhere laser or lazer was brought up. i do know it came from australia. its not on a beetle frame trust me on that.

its everything the 917 was and then techno ran into it. its on a plug and play set up. download all data including drivers sphincter muscle.

as far as im concerned its better than the 917 open cockpit RC COLA car i sat in on johnson bozzanis porsche audis phx. showroom floor back when i was a kid.

it aint no beetle!

No need to quote you, Chaz, Laser is a very well-known Ozzie kit.

jim patrick, uncle bill johnson and i will be coming up with a PANO article as soon as we get thru kalif. mtr. spudway. as i mentioned the details are hazy at best. im in and out, hes in and out and as everyjuan knows you cant remember everything that transpired unless ya write it down.

yes i would love to tell you why the rear wings are not on and what degree they are set at. what shocks are used or how tall or short ya gotta be to sit in it, what pistons, ka nutten valves, cams and brake pads, how many hp on da dyno etc und so weiter. but to be honest...........i am not at liberty to say. otherwise i may loose my top secret agent status. i do know for a fact, that not one half assed product was used in its build. suffice it to say the best components known to mankind were utilized. i honestly dont think "money" was a consideration. doing it beyond perfect was job numero uno!

how fast? ONE BILLLLLL-ION MPH!

also i would suffice it to say............YOU DONT WANT THIS IN YOUR REARVIEW MIRROR!

now im sure if :

A) you are SERIOUS about purchasing one.........contact patrickmotosports.com jim will be more than happy to go over all the super secret specs and customize it to your height/weight/size of foot/custom fitting of sphincter module etc.

B) if yer not ser-i-ass..................well what can i say.........dont bug 'em hes real busy!
