911 SC-Targa-Fog lights-Help.

Greetings:

My small lights--work...no problem...
Regular headlights don't work---Only if i put them on high beam--Once i flicker them with the turn signal back mode, the headlights come off..When i release the turn signal they come back on..high mode only...
I checked the fog light-fuse in front---seems ok and checked the relay....ok...
I tried the fogs with the small lights on---nothing...
What is my next step......

Thnxs!

Walt

I believe that you have a faulty turn signal/hi lo beam switch. Fog/driving lights on your car only work with low beams, so once you get the low beams functional again I suspect that the fog lights will also work.

Walt: Normally the switch is replaced, but occasionally the contacts inside the switch can be adjusted so the switch will work again. It's a tricky little job, and to gain access to the inside of the switch you need to remove the steering wheel and upper & lower column covers. You might not want to mess with trying to fix the old switch, the success rate isn't very good.

Bruce Anderson says in on old Excellence mag that heat distorts the prong thingies in the switch. The headlight juice feeds thru the switch causing the heat. The person with the problem had hi beams that stayed on all the time because the switch would not hold the stalk in the low beam position. It would pop back to high beam once hand pressure was released. Not exactly like your problem but probably in the same area.

He said the problem is made worse if you run oversize quartz headlights.
