Post Should this be connected?

As u can see on the foto below, I connected the the hole in the engine cover with the hole in the air box ( the 9mm hose that is in between the intakes and goes right under the airbox cover.
After I did this it seems that the car is running smoother.....is this correct?
This is a 74 2.7 cis.

The diagram I have for the 78 shows the shroud connection going to the charcoal cannister (side with one connection point).The air box connection goes to the other side of the charcoal cannister (side with 2 connection points). The 74 might not have the cannister, in which case your configuration makes sense. FWIW
