Wheel Spacer and Fuch size Question
I currently have 21M wheel spacers on my rears with a 7" fuch. Seems like i would be able to fit 8" fuchs.
My question is: 1) would I be able to fit an 8" fuch on the rear of my 1982 911SC with these spacers? 2) What off-set would I need ? Thanks,

No exact answer for you, but I have either the same spacer as you with 7s (and like you I could use more offset), or a set of superlites in 8 (no spacer for those) that fills it out nicely and will rub if the car is lowered too much...
I think an 8" fuchs would do the job without spacers... 8"+spacers will probably rub unless your car is sitting pretty high ! |

I think it depends on what 8" Fuchs. For 16 inch, the 951 8s and 911 7s have the same offset I believe. (23.3) and should fit with your spacer. The 911 8x16 I doubt would fit with that spacer but I don't know the offset of 911-8x16.
I know my 9x16 fuchs rubbed the fender lip with a 5mm spacer. 9x16 fuchs have a 15mm offset I believe. You can search for wheel offsets and find the offset of the wheels you're interested in putting on. For 911 8x16 you shouldn't need any spacers. They fill out the fender well fine.

Besides the offset, is there a difference in a 951 8's x16 and the 911 8x16?

I have 951 8s on the rear of my 87 with 5mm spacers. What is your goal with changing to 8s?

The amount of camber will affect clearances, when providing info on your setup you may also want to state camber, especially if it is significantly negative.

Trying to get a wider tire foot print on the road. I currently have 7's with spacers and was thinking about putting 8's on the rear.
Questioning if it is worth trouble. thoughts?

Worth the cost is probably the question you have to ask yourself. 911 8s and 9s are expensive. I like the look of the deeper dish fuch on the rear plus you can put a 245 tire on them. However, before you go down this path and spend a lot of money, research tire options for 245/45/16. If you just want a wider track and don't care about getting 245s on, I wouldn't think it's worth the trouble but that's just me.

I am also running 951 (7&8) all around. 8" rears have a 5mm spacer, soon to be replace with a 12mm.
8" wheels will fit in the back no problem with a 225/50 tire. A 951 Fuch part number will start with "951..." These probably should have some sort of spacer to go on the rear. Is it worth it? Not really sure. Depends on what you plan on doing with your car and your financial situation. For me, if I have the excess money, a lot of things become "worth it" |

all the oem 7" wheels have ET23.3 A 7ET 23.3 sits ~24mm inboard compared to an 8 ET10.6, because the wheel is 25.4mm narrow and sits further inboard due to the lower ET If you have an oem 7 w/ a 21mm spacer then that is roughly the same as an 8 ET10.6 you can go all the way to a 9 ET15, w/o concern

Your spacer is making your 7 sit roughly like an 8 w/o any spacer neither the 8ET10.6 nore th 9ET15 can use a spacer as large as yours(21mm). There are some that use smaller ones. I never saw the need but some like to push the wheel as far out as possible(sometimes too far)

Thanks for you explanation. I have a better understanding on how my wheels are set up and why there is no need to go to an 8' wheel.
Thanks, Mike

I have 8" rear Fuchs on my 85. I am running -2.5 deg negitive and 225/50/16 Dunlop Z1's.
I look to have a bit more than 1 inch. space between my tire and the fender lip. 21mm is about .83". Thus, it looks like there is a fair chance, depending on the tire, but a 225 migh just fit with the spacer. A 9" w/o any spacer and running a 245/45 seems to fill out a wheel wheel nicely. A 8" running a 245/45 will not likly let you run your 21mm spacer. I am not an expert and I would listen to Bill V. on anything relating to wheel fit first. |

Do a search on 7" vs 8" or "fuchs widths" and you will get a lot of info on the complete difference. Given the same width tire, there are handling differences along with difference in looks. To simplify the thread. Below are the spacer sizes needed for the rear. The goal of these spacers is to put the outside of the wheel in the same plane as an 8" 911 Fuch. If you want to go to a 9" Fuch "look", just add the negative spacer width I listed for the 9" to the spacer requirement for the respective wheel. 7" (911 & 951): 25.4mm (1in) 8" (911): 0 (no spacer) 8" (951): 12.7mm (0.5in) 9" (911): - 8.3mm (tad over 5/16") Just keep in mind that a 225/50 tire will look slightly different on a 7" or 8" wheel. Plus the wheels themselves look different. |

Here's a visual I made to compare how the various wheels sit in the wheel wheel. w/o spacers
