How long is too for someone to ship something?

Question-If you buy and item privately off of the parts forum and you pay for the item quickly, how long is an appropriate time to wait for the item to ship before you have had enough and want your money back? (rather small item)

Unless there are extenuating circumstances a week is the maximum it should take to get the item shipped.

A week is plenty of time. If you do not have the time to ship then do not sell it at that time

A week max, unless there are real extenuating circumstances such as a health issue or family problem.

Before I post an item for sale it is ready to go.

I think think a person selling has the obligation to ship as soon as possible, and packed correctly.

from where to where? international stuff can add a week easy. from our host, a 15 pound package it was taking 12-15 days at X-mas to Canada. you would hope to get next day shipping from a private seller

I'd give it 2 weeks before taking action.

I think if they haven't shipped it and sent you the shipping info within a week it would be unusual.

I have been waiting five weeks for an electric motor to come from some clown on ebay who presently has 100% feedback-not for long!

+1 on a week to ship, once they receive payment.

It is reasonalble to ask the seller if the product is shipped and a tracking number, if he has not notified you before hand, if a week has passed. Some sellers are just part timers and do not monitor the board regularly, but that does not excuse them from not being prompt in shipping (see whiskeyb's post.) Unless you have been notified that shipping will be delayed, a week lag from payment is plenty. All this, of course, does not include time in transit--only the time to get the product on its way.

If you're having a problem, and the seller does not answer emails or phone calls, then that is a circumstance that needs to be looked into with a suspetitious eye.

I've recently done some buying on evilBay and I've found the quicker you pay, the quicker they ship.

I agree that (1) week should be the max. to ship something after receipt of payment, but it may take 2-3 weeks of transit time to get the item if it is being shipped internationally (I've bought some stuff from the UK recently) or a large item being shipped truck freight.

There was also one seller that made it clear that he only ships once per week. If you missed his "shipping day" you would have to wait a full week for the next one.

Also, for my work, we have a regular supplier in Canada and it is surprising how long things can sometimes get stuck at US Customs.

In addition, how far away you are from the UPS or FedEx distribution center could make a difference. I've noticed that UPS tends to make deliveries to my neighborhood only on certain days of the week.

Of course, a tracking number for the shipment is very helpful.

A 5 days from tha day money received is more than enough to pack it and drop at USPS,UPS,DHL,Fed-Ex etc.

Transit time is different storry.

as someone mention before- have no time to ship, don't take the money.

It has now been 4 weeks; I have asked to be refunded with no refund, the part is in the mail he said. He thinks I'm being unreasonable because I'm a little ticked off. The transaction was from CA to PA via USPS.

From the sellers door to the shipper. I think everyone is referring to how long the seller takes to get it to UPS, USPS, whatever. After that it's out of his control.

Hell NO! I would be contacting my credit card and disputing the charge.

I have asked again for a refund (third time) and told the person that if I do not have a refund by midnight tonight I will be reporting the person and disputing the charges with my credit card/paypal.
Stay tuned!

Depending on an amount the seller received ,if after two weeks I have no proof of shipment ( legit tracking number), most likely that is me knocking on his door.............

That's the general eBay rule, right? I'd hope for faster, but you never know.

4 weeks is cause for concern and action.
