MFI protractors

I know these things are rare but $4,500.00!

Click here for the eBay auction - as always, no affiliation.

I'd be shocked if he gets 1/4 of his asking price but I guess you never know.

That's silly. I paid $140 for a 2.2 set and found the 4th piece at another time for maybe 50 bucks, which I thought was pretty high.

I would sell my protractor set for way less than that. But then again I don't have the 2,4 "third protractor."

Hmm. . . maybe I should list mine for sale to help fund the restoration of my '66? I have only used them once and frankly found them to be of limited utility.

Hey Milt, I thought you were going to make some of these?

I was, but I explained way back when after speaking with Grady Clay at length that mine would not be plausible. I was going to silk screen the degree scale on hard plastic. Grady explained to me that what you are trying to do with these is calibrate the correlation to one half of one degree. I could not produce a product that accurate, so I abandoned the project.

Also, many have claimed that the protractors did not help much as there is not a lot of variable adjustment in the linkage as a whole. If you follow the CMA in adjusting the linkage, you get down to the
114mm +- 2mm on the pump rod and you can just fiddle with that to find the sweet spot if your system is that tight. Few are.

I might not ever use mine, but I probably won't sell them. Nice conversation pieces.

Roger that. I've built one or two MFI engines and never used the protractors. I couldn't imagine the engines running much better. But if I spent $4500 for protractors, I would definitely think they ran better!

David, they did not go for anywhere near that price.
