Purpose of Points-like Connection in WUR

I have a 072 WUR (MY80) that has a breaker points-like connector attached to the metal arm, with a small adjustment screw attached. The heating element has stamped on it 2 values: 14 ohm and 26 ohm. By comparison a 045 unit for a '79 has 26 ohms only on it.

What is the function of these seemingly adjustable points?

Why the 2 resistance figures?

The second set of points inside the 072 serves to decrease the resistance of the heating element above 60 Deg F or so. This causes the heat applied to the bi-metallic spring to be applied more slowly below 60 Deg and more rapidly above. I have checked both the 072 and the 090, both for the the Lambda engines, several months ago. I don't know why the CIS engineers chose to go with this design feature.

When I first found the second set of points, my idea was that they brought the temperature up more rapidly and held it at a constant value, like an internal thermostat, but it is not wired this way...

Thanks, Jim. I am currently adding this element, which I know works, to the bottom, vacuum assist, portion of a 045 WUR to make up a good WUR to use on my non lambda engine.
