911SC windshield light deflection??
Can the stars or light deflection problem associated with old porsche windshields be attributed to the age of the car? Looking at a low milage 911SC, but the winshield is baddly starred, ok durring the day, actually unoticable, but a sunset or night the light deflection is very apparent, wondering if this sis caused by miles or age?

Years of being sand blasted by road dirt will etch the windshield. I can't think of anything else that would cause that. Maybe the car sat outside all it's life? Could the lamination be separating from the glass? Maybe the windshield was replaced by a used one at some point? Maybe someone tried to polish the glass and scratched it in the process?
I would think that if it was a function of mileage you would also notice rough paint since it would be subjected to the same sand blasting. My car has around 95,000 miles and my windshield is slightly etched from age, but not so bad that I would consider replacing the windshield and I certainly don't notice it a night. It just looks a little dirtier all the time than my daily driver. By the way, I was in Saratoga Springs recently, beautiful area! I want to go back and check out the horse track.

mine has a little under 200,000. on it. Original windshield, it kind of looks like the forward view from the Millenium Falcon jumping to light speed when I drive into the sun. Of course the Land rover looks the same way but that is because Mrs Crusty likes to drive behind trucks that are dropping stuff all the time.
