CIS and Fuel Distributing

guys i change the fuel pump on my 1974-911s cause it was bad, now when i check the lines from the jets, no fuel...but i'm getting fuel and the right PSI on the main line going to the fuel distributor, fuel and PSI from the FA is fine, could this mean that the F.D could be going bad, but before i was getting fuel lines from the jets end....?

Did you lift the plate in the plenum to trigger the injectors and bleed the system? If not, do that. Caution, do not hold the plate up for more than 5-6 seconds--just enough to hear the injectors "squeal."

Fuel distributors don't just fail all at once in my experience, they deteriorate. I'd look elsewhere.

You run the risk of hydro-locking your engine with gasoline. The CIS pumps gas into all cylinders (actually, the valve openings) at the same time when the plate is lifted. It goes into each cylinder with the opening of the valves. Don't panic, just use reason and caution.

Glad you got it going.

Your current problem could have several causes. One word of caution, with the CIS, you don't want to pump the gas on a no-start--that's the quickest way to blow out your air-box with a backfire through the intake.

Now's the time to run the basic pressure checks of your fuel system--tons of threads on this but basically you need a fuel gauge designed to test the CIS. Test system pressure, cold control pressure, warm control pressure, and residual pressure. If this sounds like "Greek" to you, it will be clear with some basic reading up.

If your warm up regulator is out of specs, you will get a no/hard start, for example. If the residual pressure doesn't hold, you will get similar problems. You could chase your tail for a long time. Be sure all valves are adjusted, ignition is in specs and test your fuel pressures as a start to narrow down the problem areas.

Keep us up to date on your progress and ask away on any questions.

One more thing: Your new fuel pump, is it OEM and if not, does it have a check valve that is working?
