coilover setup question
i am thinking about going over to coil overs, i know how to weld so bracing the front and rear towers is no issue. i was wondering what else has to be done and if anyone has picture of there set ups or braces.
Thanks Jon |

For the front a simple triangulated strut brace is sufficient. Or you can weld a piece of tubing across to connect the two shock towers. If you get crazy you can install an X brace to connect more of the front chassis.
For the rear I would suggest connecting the two shock towers with a piece of tubing and also weld the tubing at the midpoint where it comes very close to the rear cross member. In addition to that, I would add some triangular gussets to the outer sides of the shock towers or tubes that protrude into the engine compartment. Is it all necessary? I don't 100% know for sure, really depends upon spring rates. If you can weld nicely and want to tackle the job then it certainly will not hurt. Fernando's web write up is a nice reference to check out: http://www.readynet.com/myproject/index.html

Clint is the man for the coil over stuff. He helped me get all my parts and stuff. There is an old thread with lots of pictures about the rear bracing. I'll try and find is and put a link in here.

I had coil-overs in a dedicated track car about 10 years ago. Frankly, unless it is a stripped, dedicated race car with a full cage, I wouldn't bother with the expense. A properly set up torsion bar car will handle as well.
Also, wheel fitment in the front may be an issue. Turbo or larger flares? |

I've run rear coilovers with front torsion bars on my '73 for the last eight years without issue. There was minimal bracing done in the rear towers and all is strong. This is mostly a DE car, though built for vintage racing, it does not see the stress of full season track car. I chose to go this route and avoid the rear torsion bar hassle...my car builder had no problem sourcing parts, mostly from TRG.
