Rear wheel toe in question
I am trying to correct a little toe out, in the rear wheels of my '71. Can some one tell me which bolt on the rear control arm moves the toe angle? The bolt toward the front of the car or the back of the car? And which way do you move the bolt to adjust the angle? My car has about half an inch of toe out in the rear.
THANKS!

Thanks Max!!! Do you have to loosen all the other bolts to adjust the toe?

I think just the Lock Bolt.
I have never played with the rear alignment, I just have this reference photo. I hope you get the settings you want without re-indexing the torsion bars. ![]()

No, Lock bolt in above pic is to change height.
Toe and camber adjustments must be changed together, and affect each other, along with height. Not an easy adjustment. If you want to DIY, I suggest a lot of searching here, and buy the Ray Scruggs alignment book. |

In order to change rear alignment: undo the toe eccentric, camber eccentric, and 2 bolts holding the spring plate on to the trailing arm, total of 4 bolts.
Torque settings (I know I wasted a bit of time looking for these, so might as well throw them in there): 36 ft-lb for toe eccentric, 43 for camber, 65 for spring plate to trailing arm bolts. Toe eccentric can be pointing either way. You need to turn it one way or another and see which way reduces toe out. Looks like you already got the toe measurement down. Measuring camber is easy: Some sort of a vertical straight edge (i.e. straight edge with bubble or a plumb bob) and measure from it to the wheel edge at top/bottom. You might want to scribe or mark the heads of the ecccentrics as shown in Max's picture to indicate the "axis" of the bolt. You can then match them left to right and, unless your car's been tweaked, it should get them close enough.

Thanks for posting the bolt torque settings. These are always tough and time consuming to find. Any idea of what the torque setting is for the larger lock bolt and the height adjustment eccentric bolt?

Height adjustment eccentric and lock bolt: 181 ft-lb.
That's a lot of torques ![]()

It really helps to scribe marks on the spring plates so that you can visually note changes. Keep in mind that small moves make big changes.

Won,
Perfect. Thanks much and yes that's a bunch of torque. Just curious on a related matter. The lock bolt and the height adjustment eccentric bolt nuts are lock nuts. The toe nut looks to be also a lock nut, however the camber nut is narrower and does not look to have a locking mechanism. Any thoughts?

At least on my car the toe and camber nuts were just regular 19 mm (17?) nuts. They both had Schnorr type serrated washers under them, and camber nut had an additional hardened washer.
I can't remember what the height adjustment nuts were, but they might also be regular nuts used with thick, hardened washers.
