Smile Dang--My car was hit from behind!

Well, living in bustling Los Angeles County does have its risks...

I was sitting at a red light and boom!

The damage looks minor, but Kevin P73 says it will cost at least $5,000 due to frame damage. he thinks the motor will have to be pulled and my fiberglass duck tail is shattered on the underside.

Unless the ladies insurance company tries to pull a fast one, Kevin will make everything good again.

Mike

Sorry to hear this. I hope Kevin is wrong, but that's unlikely. It sure doesn't seem like much damage.

Oh man, I feel yeah.

I got bumped when sitting at a stop. I was so fcuking pissed. I was like a Crazy Man yelling at the fcuking driver "My Engine is Back There You IDIOT!"

Thank God nothing happened but what a RETARD, Pay Attention You SPASTIC Fcuks!

OK, I'm calm now, again sorry see your baby got hit. Best wishes on a Good Recovery.

Kevin didn't really say "frame damage"...did he??? If so, you have a very rare 911...

Frame damage? Looks like the bumper shocks did there job. I would be surprised if it isn't limited to the tail lid and bumper.

pwd72s:

My car is an F150/Porsche hybrid, hence the frame

I suppose Kevin said chassis or unit body...

Even though it looks minor, there is some bent metal back there.

Thanks Milt.

Drago:

It was a 40 something lady that hit me. She was shaking like a leaf. So, I totally focused on calming her down and assuring her that I was NOT hurt and would not become "hurt" later. Hopefully, this will bring me good Karma on the repair.

Thanks guys!

Mike

New duck tail, fitting and adjustment (glass work, and such), new bumper shocks, possibly new bumper, maybe some body alignment pulls, new rear reflector, possible engine damage (?), then new paint for all. The parts plus labour at $100/hr, it adds up quick.

It cost me $2500 for a rear ender in my work truck. And that looks far less ugly than that.

Hard to believe that there's $5K of damage there at first glance. I'm sure the lady and her insurance company are going to s**t when they hear that estimate. But Kevin's an honest guy, and he knows what he's talking about. Best of luck that the fighting you'll have to do with her insurance company won't be too painful.

And wow. If that's how agitated Draco gets just hearing about your misadventure, I'm sure glad I'm not the guy who rear-ended him!

I hope it all works out.

When I saw this, I noticed another thread a couple down the page on removing the bumperettes. If this doesn't show people that these actually do some good, and that they shouldn't be removed, I don't know what will.

Scott:

The photo does not show it, but the duck tail is shattered underneath. If one looks closely, both top corners of the duck have cracks. Both rear bumper shocks compressed. Bumper needs work. The left rear fender above the turn signal shows a small stress line. The vertical panel directly behind the "PORSCHE" reflector is bowed in too.

So, I am not kidding and Kevin knows his stuff. We will see Monday or Tuesday.

well, i know there is a pretty big difference in what a shop in LA would charge as opposed to what a shop will charge in TN. My biggest concern, is your insurance company will want you to get several estimates, so if your guys is alot higher than theirs, they may not agree to his repair bill. Most insurance companies only allow aftermarket repair parts, and i know some of those parts are available aftermarket. And, if the ducktail is not original, they might give you some flack about that. good luck with it man, sucks to see it like that.

You know i removed my front bumper and back bumper and bumper shocks. I think I did put the reinforcement bars up there, but cannot remember now. If I hit or get hit I'm going to be so mad!! Thats a lot of fiberglass work that will i'm sure just crack up to pieces. I dont let my 8 year old son sit on the front of that 911 because of the fiberglass front.
Now that I have seen the way the stock bumpers can be modified, I would probably do that if given the chance again. Or even put the fibergalss OVER the bumpers with modifications.

FYI; you do not have to get three estimates and you do not have to use the body shop your insurance company recommends. Common mistake perpetuated over time.

After working on my car and seeing whats involved to do it right with the proper parts I can see 5K easy. I took out extra insurance incase some one hits me that doesn't have insurance or enough insurance to repair it properly. This way I get it repaired to my satisfaction and my insurance company chases the other driver or their company. Guess thats why I pay 1600. per year in MA. just for the P car. Insist on getting it repaired right and good luck.
