What would cause a "light" pedal feel on a 915?
This car (an '84 911), has a very light feel to the clutch pedal compared to other 911s I've driven and my 1980. A tired cable? Broken or cracked omega spring? Also, the clutch engages closer to the floor than on my car. Adjustment? My search for "light pedal" didn't turn up what I was looking for and I thought I'd ask before I dive in...
Thanks

Yep, that's the way they're supposed to "feel." A proper clutch replacement, along with a new factory o.e. cable, delivers great comfort. It's much easier to do this work wrong than right...

John and Peter,
Thank you both for the replies. I just did another search using some different key words and found Peter Zs comment about a new clutch and a "comfortable" pedal feel. I forgot to add that the car does have a recent clutch replacement and shifts smoothly in all gears, just seems to grab lower than my 1980 (which is about halfway along its pedal travel). Where should the clutch engage, low, middle, high up? Is the SC engaging too high? Thanks again...

engagement point should be somewhere that is comfortable for the individual and allow for a smooth shift. too close to the floor and the clutch may not disengage completely and cause hard shifting.

You can adjust the pedal height, no? By using the two nuts on the cable that hold it to the tranny. Just make sure to adjust the screw and lever arm to spec.

If it was quite recent/low miles, you might want to check that the new clutch didn't just bed down and eat all the free play adjustment.
My pedal got a lot lighter and the engagement point moved down towards the floorboards when that happened - it wasn't free to clamp down fully on the flywheel either.

I checked under the floor board and found that the clutch stop was loose and had settled into a "high" setting. I moved it about 1/4" to 3/8" for further pedal travel and that improved where the clutch "seems" to engage. Clutch was replaced in at least the last few hundred miles, maybe more (I'll have to check the mileage).
Also, the clutch pedal (the part you put your foot onto) does not sit even and parallel with the brake pedal. However, you can pull it back towards you with your fingers for about a 3/4" for them to line up even. Is this an issue? Just to reiterate, this is the smoothest 915 I've ever shifted.
