Wow, great looking car! I love the interior. There are indeed some interesting things about this car. Crank windows, sunroof delete, and are those pop out rear windows? I would love to find some of those for my car some day. No AC too, was that factory or was it deleted? It looks mostly stock except for some tasteful upgrades: amber rear turn signals, shift boot/knob, gauge faces, chin spoiler, rear fender rock guards, leather wrapped e-brake handle...

What are the holes in the door panel above the window cranks? Is that for a tweeter? Is that stock?

Nice find with 87k! Welcome and really enjoy that beauty! I like the colour combo and clean factory look. I'm another +1 etc. on the try not to downshift into 1st while moving. When you get used to 915 trans. you'll appreciate it's "in gear" time! Hope to see you around the forum!!! BTW SC's will continue to prove themselves as a great P-car!!!

I took her out to Laguna Seca today for an introduction into track racing with my friend Allen France who is an instructor. I'll post some pictures of the cars that I saw later. I didn't get my car out on the track but I did get to ride in a few 911s and Allen's gutted RX7 (2300 lbs) with a chevy small block (420 hp at the wheels). Talk about a roller coaster ride. It is pretty amazing to feel the difference between the way a front engine is driven professionally and a rear engine is driven professionally. What a huge difference. I couldn't get enough. I think my next purchase will be a set of 9" rear and 7" front turbo fuchs with some slicks and a few extra sets of break pads.

She is fun to drive though, that's for sure. And I definitely feel like I got some kind of bad ass fraternity like membership when I purchased the car. Apparently I'm not the only person who happens to fancy airplane influenced designed automobiles and doesn't mind getting my hands dirty.

The front may sit a little high right now but I think I am going to lower it anyways. And the holes above the window crank are for tweeters. There is an aftermarket stereo installed and I love it. The sun roof delete and window cranks with the paint color were factory ordered for weight reduction and stiffness but the air conditioner was removed maybe ten years ago. I also have the most of the maintenance records along with the PO and receipts from the original dealer. The only thing I really need to do is get a carrera valve tensioner kit or those rings that go over the valve tensioner pistons (much cheeper!). It already has turbo valve covers so there are a few items not stock but are still desirable in the eyes of most collectors. The interior is almost concourse quality but as long as there is no rust on the body I don't think I'll get a paint job until my track fix is satisfied.

Thanks for the support guys.

very nice
one thing i would never change is the headlights. ive never understood changing them, i think it ruins the lines of the 911 completely
awsome seats!
my 915 goes into 1st rolling just fine but i always avoid doing that

Nice SC.

Congratulations.

The 915 can be balky. Play around with it until you figure out what it likes.

Coming to a stop from 3rd gear +, always go through 2nd gear then first gear.

If slowing to a stop from 2nd gear, go to neutral, let off the clutch, back in on the clutch then go to 2nd then 1st.

It sounds more complicated than it is. The whole procedure takes a second once you get use to it. It's second nature to me now.

I've found going through 2nd gear or going to neutral and letting off the clutch seems to synchronize my gears better and going to first is much less of an issue.

Like I said, try a couple methods; just don't force it into 1st. The neutral/clutch release method works just about every time for me.

Also try changing out the gear oil to Swepco 201. It seems to help. I'm not sure if your maintenance records indicate the last time the gear oil was changed.

Packy:

Welcome to the Pelican clan!

Very nice car you have there and looks like someone took good care of it. Those are the best to buy.

Just one comment...Stop driving that thing in the rain, okay?

That was a good year and you should have the "bigger" intake ports on that engine.

Have fun with the car on Highway 1, south of Carmel. That was always my favorite curve all the way to Big Sur.

Cheers and congratulations.SmileWavy

Damn I need another 911...

Congrats on the 'new' SC. I hope you have many happy miles with her.

Verrrry nice SC, welcome to the site.

I no longer live in Cali, so I need to ask the question...

Does the car still need to pass smog if it's a '79? All of my oldies were smog exempt, so I yanked the air pumps. Have they re-written the laws?

Congrats on the car -- it has a lot of nice features and looks great!

Before yesterday, I had to be completely stopped before putting her in 1st. Well, I picked her up after a transmission overhaul with a new 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Now she slips right into 1st on a roll. Simple pleasures are the best! While I'll never shift into first when going over say 5-10mph, it is certainly nice to be able to get it into 1st on the odd occasion when I'm rolling too slow for 2nd, like in any other car on the planet. Having to stop outright to get to 1st in stop-n-go, slow moving traffic was always real PITA before.

So, I think it's more accurate to say that "old" 915s with worn syncros don't like going into 1st while rolling. Something to keep in mind for future projects.

Packy,
Great looking car and welcome aboard. I would strongly suggest that you avoid "down shifting" into first as only bad things can happen in the long run. The 915 can be very reliable but there are some "do's" and "don't".
At first the 915 will feel like you are shifting a truck but once you get the "feel" it becomes smooth and rewards those who master it.

Looks like you scored yourself a great car so enjoy but beware of the slippery slope! Most on this board have been affected and once you start sliding it is hard to stop.....not that there anything wrong with that other then dropping $$$$ into these wonderful cars.
