95 means a little less power (and less parts to go wrong, no varioram), no ODB2 so you avoid the dreaded light from clogged air passages too (they still clog but you are blissfully unaware). Can't recall many flaws on those, vlutch slave sylinder maybe, squeaking front and rear glass, that's all I have... Maintenance wise you can do a LOT, there used to be a nice DIY site, P-car.com or semething, but my link is dead !
PS:I think you also avoid the annoying immobilizer, but the door stays can rip out..... come to think of it the 95 might be the best 993 if you like the basket handle ;-) |

Do a search...Many postings regarding the 993 series air cooled 911's. Some say the best 911of all time. The more research you do, the better informed you'll be on the year you select for your purchase.
Remember, these are economically tough times, I would be careful not to get sucked into paying to much for a car you want vs actual value. Of course no car is worth any more than someone is willing to pay. Best of luck on your acquisition.

It's a 14 year old German car. It will absolutely NOT be trouble free. That said, they are pretty DIY friendly and there is a good amount of info on Robin's site.
Plus, they can swim.

Our '95 Tip has been pretty sound. It has 160K on it. My wife daily drives it about 50 miles round trip.
In the last 2 1/2 years we've owned it there has been pretty common type maintenance issues. Just had to do a new alternator and battery. Have had some electrical gremlins with the LCD trip computer. Biggest expense so far has been sorting a neglected AC system and then having the AC control head go...$$$! Next month I am going to replace the shocks and address a couple of recently ripped CV boots and replace the front control arm bushings. That will be $$$ project for sure. These cars are great to drive and don't seem to have any more problems than any other model. The car is 14 years old now, with our example having 160K...so things will need to be addressed. Good luck with your PPI! Cooper

I've found mine to be very reliable. Modifying them can be somewhat more expensive than on the earlier cars, but it does depend on where you want to go w/ it. Keep it stock or w/ some minor suspension updates and it will be very reliable.
