1974-1977 Sway bar Question.

What is the differience between 1974-1977 and 1978-1985 Sway bars. Well they interchange. Thanks.

IIRC, the 74-77 US cars were all imported with 20mm front, 18mm rear bars. RoW cars had a 16mm front and no rear bar. The later bars are a direct bolt-on, but I would recommend going with the later Carrera 22mm front/21mm rear bars if you're going to go through the trouble to swap them...

Look for 86-89 bars. They will interchange with the use of the later bushings. The biggest challenge will be the rear. 74-77 cars used a 'cup-and-ball' design to attach the drop link to the trailing arm, where the 78 and later cars have a bolt on drop link. The easiest solution is to go with aftermarket drop links made by tarret (I think Pelican sells them) that bolt to the spring plate instead of the trailing arm. Other options are: 1. modify the 74-77 drop link to bolt to the later sway bar, or 2. replace your trailing arms with those from a 78-89 car.

I think you can remove the droplink "mounting knob" on the early trailing arm and use the later bolt on droplinks . I don,t think you need to change trailing arms

Post again after you put the rear bar on. My '75 is missing its rear bar, thinking about putting one back on. High speed turn-in is pretty much non existent.
