Cool

Jiminy Cricket! I've seen another version of this movie that basically just stays in the car so you can watch his hands.

But I LOVE some of those shots from outside the car. There's one about at about 5:20 where the car comes in from the right and screams through a right-hander. That image will be burned into my brain forever!

Anyone know who is driving, and what he's driving?

That is Jack !!
Just kidding.

Sander...there was a link to this video in a post a while ago.
Thats supposedly the guy that test drives all the RUF cars for RUF.
I don't think he is a professional racer.
And it was pointed out that the way he slides through those turns is obviously not the fastest way to take the track.

But it is C O O L !

Yeah, every time I see him sliding through the corners, I find myself thinking two things simultaneously:

A) That doesn't seem like the best line through that turn.
B) This is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

I happened to watch that video again last night with my 3 year old son. What a hoot! I get excited every time I see it! Junior kept saying "what's the Porsche doing daddy, what's he doing?" My reply was "living my dream job son".

Some more anecdotal stuff.

The driver is probably Stefan Roser (sp?) who is the test driver for Ruf. He is also known as Sideways Stefan (I don't know why ). I have read a couple of articles where he drove someone and scared the crap out of them.

What I noticed is it seems to be a slightly over 8 minute run, and the record for "production" cars (which the Ruf is, I believe) is only slightly under 7 mins. So either way he went pretty darn quick.

I get freaked on the one where you see his hands and just how quick he is reacting...

Both videos available here:

http://www.sjrixon.clara.net/

Lap 1 is in car, lap 2 is the external one. I have no idea if the quality is better or worse than the WMV link above (can someone let me know!).

Thanks for that link! I've haven't seen that last lap footage of Gilles Villeneuve and Arnoux at Dijon since I saw the race way back in 1979/80. One of the all-time great laps in F1 history!

Hey Cam I think the record holder now for the fastest lap in a production car is the 996 GT3. Check out the newest excellence mag under the GT2 article.
