generator or alternator

I have a 1968, 912 that the battery keeps dying. It still have a generator. Any suggestions and is it difficult to change to an alternator system?

Generators are easier to fix and usual less troublesome.

Even an alternator system will not solve your battery dying problems if you do nothing to find out where the problem is coming from.

A generator will keep charging without a battery an alternator won't, but you do need to find out why the battery keeks dying.
