KTL - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif And image, I even found time to make a baby!!! LOL We are due for August...

Just wanted to add the finished trans. trap. Used some pieces of 1/8 stock and cut some small pieces that I welded to the cutout. Drilled some hole and tacked a nut. The plate is bolted from the bottom.

Ah, I see you're a glutton for punishment just like me? I have #2 on the way in November (#1 is not even 1 yr. old yet- April 22). Congrats my friend!

Keep up the good work and get moving. Baby will cut into your free time pretty good. Keep those gloves handy for changing projectile poo diapers........ :D

wax105 03-29-2010 02:06 PM

LMAO! Thank you sir!

And congrats to you and the Miss... I'll be plowing away hard till then!

Carl,
Nice job - will keep an eye out for updates here.
Have you started in on moving the engine / trans forward?

I will be getting the chassis back today! I'm not really happy with the finish in the cab, once all setup is said and done I'll wire wheel the interior to get a nice coat of paint stick properly.

Used a few hours yesterday to see how light I could get a steel door...

Managed to get more then half the weight out of it and keeping some form. Granted these things are really heavy to start... Will make some formed door cards when door bars and padding are in.

I'll post some better pics when she gets in...

wax105 04-01-2010 03:52 AM

Doug, no I havent and decided it would be part of next winter projects. I want to see how much I can move everything forward. But I know exactly the way I'll do it...;)

Thanks

Time for a little update as I'm waiting for the MonacoGP start...

Now with the chassis prepped I was able to start instaling all nice new shinny parts I had in stock!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274015457.jpg

Started with the A-arms and RebelRacing bushing set. All I have to say is these are spectacular! Actuation is flawless, I had to shim about 5mm in the front to get good alignment. The proper spherical washers are ordered and on their way. This should ad some anti-drive in the geometry. They are as precise and stiff as you would expect from a 935 spherical front end!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274015240.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274015287.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274015642.jpg

Installed the rebuilt steering rack and collumn. I added some spacers under the collumn mount in the cab to lower the steering a little as the seat is now much lower in the car.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274016349.jpg

Budget being the limiting factor here, the RacePak dash and data setup will have to wait. But I have the next best thing! I decided to run some test and see if I could use my kart tach/lap timer working in the car. All seem good, tach works and I have the tripod for tracks that dont have the imbedded timing marker. I'll have to see if I can adapt the temp sensor... Either way I'll ad an oil temp/psi gauge and a batt voltage gauge. I ordered some aluminium sheet to make some dash panel to bolt all switchs and acc...

I am expecting the rear coilovers and rsr spring plates from Clint this week!
This should be nice!!

I bought a 74' Mag case stock 915 that came out of a running 100k car. It is stock with the 7/31 r&p that have some wear. The ring is not broken thru the hardfacing but the pinion doesnt look very good. So this is a TEST, please do not adjust your computer screen this is a TEST!!

I am not sure what the final desired tranny setup will be for this car... Maybe 915, maybe G50, maybe Mendeola... lol Who knows

So in the interest of science and my personal satisfaction, also some advice from people I trust. I will start with the box as is, adding a CaliforniaMotorsport side cover and poor man spool... The objective is 10-15 track days this summer. I have my money on this working fine if driven within the physical limits of this box. Once the car is shaken down and some quick laps I'll be in a better position to know what I want.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274018833.jpg

The diff was cleaned, prepped and pre heated before welding at 200amps. Penetration is optimal and this baby isnt gong anywhere

The boys at PorscheHauss will do a once over and adjust the backlash. Always nice toys there!!!

juicersr 05-16-2010 06:35 AM

Just curious on how long it took u to get the rear flares to point they were primerable?

Good job BTW, very thorough. What size and type wheels will u be running?

Joan911 05-16-2010 06:53 AM

wax105 05-16-2010 09:49 AM

juicersr,

I had the bodyshop sand and primer the quarters for me while they were doing the tub. They were pretty bad when I brought them and was actually very surprised how they turned out. They are not perfect but definently good enought. The gelcoat was really bad so I guess he had to sand quite a bit.

I am not really in to looks, this will be All go, No show this summer. I plan on basterdizing this thing and running the wide 993 f/g front fenders I have. The plan is to get a full GT2 kit from JohnSimone next year. All I need for now is a 993 front buimper and rsr rear, I'll make up some side skirts for ground affects and to tie both the diff front and back together.

I dont think she'll be worthy of parading beside the beautiful FunfGruppen cars this year. ;)
But she should fly!!!

As for wheels I will be running 18'', something between 9.5 - 10.5 f / 11 - 12 r. Havent decided what wheels yet, probably what comes along at that point... I would like BBS E88s, E26s, I think CCW offers a good custom option at a good price!?! I am lucky enought to have access to Ferrari Challenge and some Cup cars for tires. So I will have plenty of sets with a few heat cycles to burn for not much... When you have 2 much money, its always the cars fault for being slow... lol
Its OK boys, keep on changing those tires. This motivated my choice for 18'', should be a good combination. The Challenge 360s run 235/680/18 , 295/ ?!? /18 Pirelli P3 if I remember correctly.

Regards,
Carl

Nice work and nice project....

I am guessing your in quebec somewhere? the flat bed truck with french writing was one clue.

Did you bend all the roll cage tubing with that small bender you built? Are you tig or mig welding it?

Thanks

wax105 05-16-2010 01:34 PM

Thanks Herman,

Yes I did bend everything with that tool. Its actualy pretty massive and way too overbuilt for the application. Wasnt that much bending involved, alot more notching... I MIG welded and you are correct, I am in Quebec!

Received my my rear shocks from RebelRacing this week!!! They look absolutaly amazing, I am impressed... Thanks Clint

The quality and finish is above my expectations, I can not wait to try these out, spring plates should be here early next week.

More to come...

Spring plates came in this week! These are an actual work of art, again Clint has outdone himself... Setup should be very accurate and quick.

I am amazed by the range of adjustment these cars have, even in the late 60s.

thebng 07-08-2010 09:19 AM

Great thread. I am interested to see the end result. I am thinking about going the same route. Looks great so far.

wax105 07-23-2010 06:07 PM

So work is progressing, time for a small update. Its been more parts sourcing few weeks then actual fabrication but everything is falling in line.

The rear is all set just missing the sway bar!

- 100mm studs
- 930 rotors

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279934074.jpg

I modded the rear 964 calipers by reaming the original mounting holes and turning some alu. dowels and press fit before redrilling. I'm now milling off 1mm extra on the ears to better center the disc. Pics when I finish...

Got the oil tank mounted, I finaly installed it in the cab, hopping to improve MOI. Will fab a sheet metal case for it when the final touchess go in. Its a Patterson 5 gallon, got a really deal on Ebay and couldnt pass it up. A little more oil can hurt just give it a little more time to cool off before going back in the motor. I ordered a weld in -AN bung to add an extra vent fitting as it only has 1. There is a drain at the bottom that I will plug with a 90deg fitting then drill a hole in the floor to drop the oil.

It even has an Oberg filter!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279935731.jpg

Its clamp down nicely but easily removable for cleaning.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279936026.jpg

Again a great deal on a 12gl NIB FuelSafe cell came along so here it is. I will order a can for it and finish the mounting... Wallbro high flow in tank fuel pump not yet installed but on hand.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279936361.jpg

Also needs a vent fitting added.

New clutch kit on the shelf, still need to get a conversion flywheel. Anyone have recommendations, are the only 2 option PatrickM and Thimmens?

My objective is to get the motor in and running in the next couple weeks so I have to sort that out. Got a universal hot-rod wiring kit, I'll need some help figuring the hookup to DME from a few of you!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279936809.jpg

I started shopping for hose and fittings, -16 for oil and -8 fuel.

Back to work, thanks for looking guys!

"Thebng" I'm also very anxious and curious to see how she turns out!

red 2.7 07-26-2010 04:52 AM

Great work I've been watching this thread for a while. Would it be possible to visit sometime??

Cory M 07-26-2010 07:31 AM

Which wiring harness kit is that?

I sent you a PM too

wax105 07-27-2010 10:37 AM

Red 2.7 _ No problem, send me a mail or PM anytime you want to meet up. I have no Pcar friends around here, appart from my track buddys everyone thinks I'm crazy to spend so much money and time on a car that wont even be driven on the road... Shows how much they know! Suckers:D:D:D

Cory _ Its from Northwest Autowire, quality is good enought for the application. I dont think you need to use the much more expensive alternative Painless kit for this application. I might install resettable ATC fuses if I see the need. Thanks for the in, I'll look in to those wheels...

Update

Work and parts gathering has continued at a steady pace...

Received front floating front rotor hats, I'll be using Wilwood rotors at the front and 930s at the back. Very nice machining and finish! The caliper adapters will not work with the 964 calipers as they are for 993s. Will make others when calipers are mounted...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286456359.jpg

I finished the cage to chassis tabs, they were not really necessary but put a nice finish on it. The cage being tied in to all suspension pickup and pivot points the tub is just along for the ride.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286456796.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286456844.jpg

Next is setting up the electrical system, all hd switches with resettable breakers and running off relays. The generic fuse panel will distribute the system. I found that I could not easily reach the dash once properly seated, had to stretch, so I'm making a aux. control panel. It will also have the brake bias nob, fire system switch and plenty of room for expansion. At this point the system is quite simple...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286457924.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286457992.jpg

The side panel will hold the dist. panel and relays, will make everything accessible and in one unit.

Good news on the tranny front, I've been waiting on that for a few months now... She looks great, apart from the r/p that I allready knew about all that is needed is a reseal and setup. As I said before, the tranny is a test for know, I have no idea what gearing I will need for the different tracks I will regularly run at. Hopefuly the combo I have now will last long enought to make a proper assement of where I need to be, maybe I'll hate the 915 and decide to go G50... They are waiting for the CaliforniaMotorsport side cover and it will be back together. So I started finalising the work and parts needed to mate the motor and tranny.

30mm/-16 fittings
Controversial obx headers
Patrick flywheel and stud kit (Nice piece!)

Still need to source proper fittings to convert the M16 fuel rail to -an, leads anyone?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286459789.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286459905.jpg

I am keeping the 964 engine mount and the plan at this point is to mod the tranny carrier to move everything as much forward as possible. I'll clearence whatever I need in the torsion tube. Being on a tight budget I need to work on any aspect that comes cheap like balance and weight loss... Power is out of reach for now.

I have to go buy a hydraulic lift cart this weekend, it will make all the test fitting and engine install painless.

More parts...

Tilton pedal box arrived yesterday! That is going to be sweeeet... I will work on mounting this week but they look great allready!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286461118.jpg

Clint at RebelRacing started work on the front struts, they should be in soon... My problem now is that this baby will probably be ready when the snow will be on the ground! Might have to drive south...

Starting to get very anxious now!! But allready daydreaming of the version 2.0 for the future... It just never stops this madness!!! Maybe something like this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1286461836.jpg

JeremyD 10-07-2010 06:57 AM

nice 993 hats and adapters - where did you get those??

The whole project looks great!

Vintage914Racer 10-07-2010 07:33 AM

Great thread. Makes me want to head out to the garage and get some work done.

wax105 10-07-2010 09:11 AM

Jeremy- These are from Pro-Systems, was not really impressed with the other stuff I found... I spent more money in places I thought were of better value to me, like these for example.

Vintage914- Thanks buddy, now enought surfing... Get to work!!:D

NoLift911 10-07-2010 09:36 AM

Nice work on the dimple dies for the attachment tabs. I need to do the same for my rollbar for the A-pillars - anymore details on this? Not wild about purchasing a full set of dies for probably 3 holes on each side.

wax105 10-07-2010 04:07 PM

P-Dawger- I think you can simply order them indiviualy, I recommend a shop press for a clean job...

wax105 11-13-2010 04:26 PM

Update

Bought the hydraulic lift cart and got a chance to test fit the engine to its new home.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1289691646.jpg

Got the switches and relays all wired up and ready to feed accessories, once all the connections are done and working, I'll clean it all up... The master kill switch will be in the original ignition location and will feed power to the panel. Going to put an Anderson connector in the passangers side that will be wired directly to the batterie to ease trackside boosts and charging.

I installed the data acquisition and dash and gave it some juice, its been a while since this car has had electricity running thru it! Wont be long, she'll be screaming down the track, I'll need every second available to get it ready on time!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1289696336.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1289696479.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1289696548.jpg

The tranny is ready and I will go pick it up this week and mate it to the engine. I started dry fitting fuel lines, I'm using kevlar braided -6 and -8, all the hardware is in apart from the surge tank that should be here shortly. Will test fire without it if need be... Also received the oil cooler, I chose a Setrab Comp 500, only wanted to do this job once! I'll make some mounting brackets tomorow, ducting and hood vent will have to wait for the body kit to be fitted.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1289697377.jpg

Next update should be first spark!!! I'll take video and let you guys know how it went...

Flieger 11-13-2010 05:35 PM

I am amazed at the seriously stout design of the tube frame every time I see this car.
