MFI 2.4 ltr. "CMA"
I have read that when correlating throttle bodies I should turn the air screws 2 turns out. I have also read to turn them 2 1/2 turns out. I have a 2.4 ltr. and in the MFI manual it says 1 1/2 turns out. I assume this is with a new system along with the use of protractors. What is the starting point with a 2.4 ltr.

I use the method explained on page 22 of CMA (version 4532.21). Fully close the air correction screws and then open 2 1/2 turns. I find that a synchrometer like this works great (two, one on each side, work even better).

The number of turns on the idle air correction screws depends on what MFI set-up you have...early or late. Since you have the 2.4 (late system) it is 3 1/2 turns (or 1.5 full rotations). The early system uses 5 1/2 turns of the screws (Or 2.5 full rotations). Mr. Clark you are correct...just missed that in the first read through. :o |
He said it's a 2.4 so it's either a '72 or '73.

MFI 2.4 ltr. "CMA"
My car is a 73S. I installed a MSD and used NGK 7 plugs which are one heat range hotter than the 8 that NGK called for. I gapped the plugs at .035 and the car ran great, especially at start up. Plugs and also tail pipe nice color. After 8,000 miles I did valve adj., points, cap & rotor and gapped the #7 plugs at .050. I know of some people who gap at .060, however it appears that the electrode does not line up properly with such an angle. Immediately the car ran lean, backfire at part throttle and idle. I enriched the main "part load" 4 clicks rich. The car now runs OK but now I'm having a hard time with idle. That's why I asked about the air screw question.
