seeking opinions: 930 slant or 86 turbo front end parts?

Just bought a 79 930 roller (930 VIN numbers) with what appears to be factory slant fenders ect but also stockpiled all parts for a later 930 from an 86 491 optioned car so i have front fenders, bumpers, spoiler ect so trying to decide which way to ease into the project. car desperately needs paint so...what do you think, slant nose 79 or later 86 style fenders and front end. thanks for the input...regards all

As I read the opinions on this board, the majority of respondants prefer the origional 930 look as opposed to the slant nose. I also share that feeling and recently purchased a 79 930 myself and hope to keep it origional. It really comes down to what your personal preference is or maybe you are better suited to build it with the intention of eventually selling it and moving to another car. If you might be going to replace this with another car later, you will recoup more of your invested money by going non slant since there will be even more limited buyers out there for your slant nose car no matter how much you spend on it. Good luck and have fun with your new project.........Garry

As many know I am a big factory slantnose and DP935 fan.

I have a stock 79 930 and would never change to slantnose fenders. I love the look of the original 930 also and as these cars become more rare.

I think in the long run you would be more happy returning the car to original. It should also be easier to restore to original.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

What do you think the car had from the factory? If it was a slantnose, I'd make it a slantose. And that comes from someone who does not care for the slantnose looks.

That said, I think the slantnose will become easier on the eyes with time. A lot of the late 70s / early 80s stuff is coming back.

The thing is the factory didn't make a slantnose (that we know of) in 1979.

The prototype 930S was made in 1980.

mine looks like that but has gills on top of fenders and pop up lights. the front bumper is missing as well as one of the boxed rockers. its definately a 930 because of the VIN number though. are you guys sure there wasnt a factory slant in 79?? thanks.

kycarguy is correct about the 1979 "slant". The factory did not get the Sonderwunsch Programm (at Porsche Werke 1 repair/customer service facility) underway until 1981 for their European customers. My understanding is that the first prototype (s?) were built in 1980, orders taken and cars built beginning in 1981.

I thinks slants look great. I love the look of the original fenders as well. Slants look very exotic and aggressive to me, while the original fenders look prettier. Both are cool in my book.
