Single again.. need help
Well.. I guess 2 years went by and whaddya know Im single again.. At this stage in my life the only "date" vehicle I own is my 76 911.. Which is a good vehicle because any woman who turns her nose up at me cuz I drive an "old car" is not the woman for me..
However: The ratted out tan interior and "gee your car is kinda loud" is not gonna fly. So.. help me out here.. my exhaust is bone stock california.. thermal nuclear reactors and all (I have the bypass pipes for the reactors just havent gotten the guts to turn the nuts off yet)... Im on "sobatical" which means I have lots of outcome as opposed to income.. so Im trying to not pour money at this problem.. so... help me out.. what would the most economical way to deal with my interior be..? Id like to restore it but its just too pricey for me to buy new carpet in tan now (I cant remember the name of my color.. its a light tan.. lots of people hate it but I love it.. its a 76!!).. Besides, no AC and its hot here in NC in the summer.. so black would suck. My thoughts: buy new RS type door panels and spray them with the vinyl paint I bought and used on my dash and rear seats which looks fantastic. And then have the seats reupholstered locally.. mine are the crushed velvet with vinyl types.. I'll try and post a pic. Then.. shampoo the carpet and buy some nice floor mats.. should be pretty presentable at that point.. Oh need to recover my steering wheel I guess.. sigh.. ![]() OK onto the exhaust.. hell.. am I going to win here ever? Does ANY chick dig the porsche growl constantly? I dont think there is a "solution" for this.. is there? What about this: Full exhaust from 11/74 Almost new tires Will this fit my 2.7 and will the pre muffler help? ![]()

JP,
Is that Ice Green Metallic? If so it will turn females' heads. Most guys says it is too girlish looking. But then I ask them, "what color is your Porsche?". Tom ![]()

Since you are in Charlotte, call DC Automotive. They are in Rocky Mount and are a large dismantler. See if they have either used SSI's or simply an early car exhaust system and matching muffler. Easy day trip up and back. I bet the cost of gas is less than shipping.
As for door panels, respray what you got. Women like having an arm rest and a way to close the door.

Two things; one, are you saying that getting rid of my thermals will quiet the car? Two.. EXCELLENT point about the arm rests.. Im gonna order up some fiberglass pockets today.. screw it.. (you need them to attach the arm rest..

Welcome to the ranks bro - my date vehicle is a straight piped TT with no heat/AC/radio etc.
Its going to do two things and two things quickly - sort out the good ones from the chaff. If they can't hang with a loud and non air conditioned ride on a date, you don't want to date 'em. Some of the best dates in the world are the ones that push the confort zone - and not all well off/quality chicks thumb their nose at a classic and 'real' date car, for some its the experience they never knew they needed but end up loving.

I just remembered a story of when I was dating my wife. Went to a show in the Porsche and the passenger window blew a fuse when down. It then started to rain and she was getting soaked. She thought it was funny and we had a good time. That is when I knew she was a keeper. Like you said, be yourself.

Thats funny you brought this up, my buddy, who probably has not had any nookie in quite some time , had a hot date last night. I helped dig his carerra out of storage yesterday so he could take her out in this car. He asks me , " what if she does not like old noisy porsches?".
My answer " cross her off the list, and move on"

Buy purple power a scrub brush and fill a bucket with car wash and water spray the stains on anything with purple power then dunk the scrub brush into the bucket and scrub takes car of most carpet stains you will be amazed. If you use it on anything but carpet make sure you don't let the purple power sit long and rinse after purple power is strong.
That should take care of you carpets and maybe you seats. you can also buy spray paint for your carpets that works pretty good. |

Just a guess, but the noise issue may be from inside the car. That's my experience. Check into a new sound pad in the engine compartment or maybe additional padding behind the back seats. And I am surprised those thermal reactors are still on there.

This is a awesome thread.. such great advice regarding Porsche's and dating..
I was just telling a fellow pelican that I need to find a guy friend in Charlotte.. I spend way too much time with women.. lol I'll take a look but I THINK my sound pad is pretty new.. not sure if they wear out.. I do know have VERY noisy windows.. but I dont think thats gonna be an issue because they are gonna be down a lot now.. I do need to come up with a good stereo delete cover though.. Havent found any examples on here.. I'll do some searching for some nice floor mats too.. they can cover a lot up.. I have used carpet spray on the carpet and it works ok.. but Id have to do the entire carpet cuz mine is faded.. I may just pull the seats and do just that.. we will see.. I've already used a whole can on the vinyl.. lol.. I filled all the cracks in my dash with epoxy.. worked damn good actually.. Right now I need to go out and get a mothers day gift! thanks guys.. keep the advice coming.. trust me I need it ![]()

No idea if the thermal reactors are adding to the noise or not. What I do know is 1.) you need to lose them, and 2.) my old 2.7 with SSI's and an aftermarket muffler (probably Bursch) was not noisy. Just some great, subtle sounds. As a matter of fact, my wife and I drove Los Angles to Charlotte in it twice!

Chuck Jones: My other vehicles are a 1997 Jeep cherokee with an extremely bad "death wobble" that I have spent hours trying to fix and a 1999 Dodge RAM 3500 with a cummins diesel.. now that is not a chick magnet!

![]() What about those pipes I had the link to? Was wondering if those would work.. I dont need SSI's here in Charlotte do I? I dont drive it in the salt when its out..

Dollars to doughnuts you aren't doing anything with the exhaust on that car by yourself. Head studs will break off before coming out clean. Go see Terry at The 911 Shop (704-596-1302), or Jim Burton at Eurowerks (704-821-3061). They'll walk you through the what's and why's much better than I can. More importantly, they will be able to see if the TR's have caused any major damage.

![]() I pretty much do everything myself.. the key on those studs is if the nuts dont turn with about 15 ft lbs you better torch them off.. carefully.. but I'll stop in and talk to Terry.. I drive by there all the time.. never stopped.

BTW your interior looks like "Cork" to me.
