You have a 1971 911/01 from a 2.2 which is a one year only 901 with magnesium case and 7:31 r&p with pull clutch ,mech drive speedo also(from 1972 on the 915 was introduced and used up to 1986)

What is the VIN on the chassis?
The engine numbers you gave look like casting numbers. The actual engine serial number is down low on the right side of the fan housing on a vertical casting. Just behind it on the flat will be the engine type number; something like 911/##

You might have a frankenstein car put together from different parts. How about some pictures of the engine.

One thing you'll learn here and it's too late for you, is the value of a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). Now you've got to figure out what you've got so you can better diagnose problems and solutions down the road.
Welcome to the best 911 school on the planet.

yeah i think i do have a franstein setup, i was told the engine is a 3.2l. The car aslo looks like its an 84 carrera but the tranny isnt by the looks of it. The shift pattern is dogleg which i believe doesnt match. Its a 5spd which i though the older models were only 4spds. Ill take pictures tomorrow and try and find the engine number. I hope all this will work together and that its a 3.2l and not a 2.2l

That chassis is a 1976.
Originally it would have been a narrow body with a 2.7 liter engine. By narrow body, I mean it doesn't have the SC or Carrera wider fenders (not turbo wide but wider than the 'middie's of 74 to 77).
You really need to post a series of pictures and we can help you figure it out.

edit: if first gear is in and down and reverse is above that, then that confirms the 901 trans that correspond with the numbers. They certainly made 5 speed 901 tranny's.

alright, ill add a bunch of pictures tomorow of the car, engine and tranny. So if its a early 901 from years 70-71 as was said would it bolt up to any 911 engine?

Short answer, no not to any 911 engine unless modifications were made, in some cases. Best to just hunt up the engine #'s and post pictures.

Find the engine serial number on the verticle part of the fan base (see arrow)

That will tell you the year and type of engine. The number should look like this:
*6XXXXXX* with the "X's" being various digits. Since your chassis is a 76, the proper engine would begin, *6X6XXXX*

Th number and engine type 911/03 give you a 2.2 liter 1971 911 T engine. Not exactly the 84 you thought you were getting. The trans matches the engine and both were transplanted into the later chassis.

Chassis is the narrow body style w/o the later fenders and the front bumper is aftermarket. The rear looks euro style with the small bumpers. You SIR, have a real project on your hands, as everything needs to be gone through. Hopefully you got a real deal.

+1

Nothing about your car matches the brief description that you mentioned in your first post. Hopefully, you weren't expecting a true 84 carrera and, more importantly, hopefully the price was very low. It may be time to clarify what you do want out of the car--in other words, your expectations. Lots of good, experienced advice here that can help decide if you will be satisfied with this recent purchase.

ouch, well thats kind of dissapointing. Whats the hp rating on the 2.2l and is this setup fairly reliable\ any good? I traded my porsche 928 for this 911, i only paid 5000 canadian for the 928 and it was due for a tranny and engine rebuild.
so what clutch kit will i need then? the 1970-1971? Do you usually need a full kit or would just a clutch work?
thank alot for all the help so far, you guys really know your porsches.

From what I've read, you don't appear to be the slightest bit concerned that you were screwed. You do have recourse, even in Canada

well im not happy but not overly mad either, in the end i still managed to get myself a 911, sure its only a 2.2l but its a start, and you need to start somewheres. worse comes to worse i can take the guy that traded it to me to court. I never signed the bill of sale meaning i never agreed to what he gave me, the guy left in such a hurry he forgot to get me to sign.
