911SC. Which is the correct location of the aerial?

Hello,

I have a doubt about which of the to aerials I have in my 911SC is the original.

This is a German car LHD and when I bought it, came with 2 antenas, one at the left and one at the right. My idea is to cancel the non original one but when I check photos of other 911s I am not sure which is the right wing where the aerial came originally.

Could you help me to tell which is the correct one? At the side of the fuel cap or at the other side?

regards

There was a discussion about this once (try a search), but IIRC, the consensus was power antenna on the passenger side, manual on the driver side. I ordered my '78 with radio delete and it arrived with a manual antenna (on the driver side).

Are both fenders original?

You are right. It is an SC with "Carrera" front fender. I bought the correct SC fender to replace it.

Both aerials are manual. I was told that the previous owner added one of it for getting more frecuencies, (something I really dont understand)

I am thinking to install an electrical one, so as per the comments all of you give, I should keep the passenger one.
Just that position of the passenger existing one looks a little bit on a side. Dont you think so?

Any preferences about manual or power one? Which one do you recommend?

What might be confusing you is that early SCs, I think '78/79, had their antenna hole off to the outside curve, while the later SCs had the hole more on top of the fender (my '82 pictured). All electric antennas, that I'm aware of, were put in the right (passenger side) fender.

If you want to, measure from the closest part of the gap between the fender and trunk lid, to the center of your antenna hole. Mine measures 3 7/8" to the rear center of the hole, and 4" to the front center of the hole (with a measuring tape placing the right angle end into the gap and pressing it against the fender).

My choice would be a power Hirschman unit, and a body plug for the hole in the driver's side fender.

Thanks evrybody.

I think I will keep the drivers aerial (it looks to me the original one) and install a power antena. I hope the motor will fit inside.

Regards

Double check if there is room for the motor. I recall there was a reason the power antennas were on the PS. I don't believe there is room for the motor on the DS.

There is no room for a power antenna on the drivers side. The fuel filler gets in the way. Prior to 1982, the SCs had an option for the power antenna on the PS. I think after 1982 all SCs came with a power antenna on the PS. My 81 SC has a manual antenna on the drivers side and it is VERY difficult to get to.

My advice is to put a power antenna on the PS and don't look back.

I just threw away a power antenna from a Carerra a few days ago.. hate them. In the past I have used the small 6-7" black whip which looks good and works great.
