The mechanic that was rebuilding my 2.7 was fired (he had a bit of a drinking problem). It seems he is the only one that knew how to put the motor back together (he was the only mechanic with porsche engine experience). So the owner brought my motor in pieces(many months later) to the nearest porsche shop to have it assembled. It seems the porsche shop didn't want anything to do with a 2.7. They would not waranty the work on a 2.7. They suggested I purchase a 3.0, rebuild. The owner from the first shop felt really bad about this engine rebuild taking so long, he is willing to eat some of the costs. He is going to charge me $2,000 for the purchase of a 3.0 and give me my old engine back. You see, I did the purchasing of all the parts for the 2.7 rebuild.
What do you think about this deal? Second question: what else will I need for the 3.0 engine swap? I have a 1977 911 Targa. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited 06-07-2001).] |

Exactly what kind of shop is this? I would suggest that you ensure the quality of the 3.0 as a top priority (IMHO)!
What was he charging for the 2.7 rebuild...if you don't mind... Matt 77 911S Targa |

This was an engine shop (mostly american engines), the owner was a friend of a friend. It was going to cost about $1,800 for the labor. I did all the parts buying. The 3.0 is coming from PAP.
