1971 2.2 MFI PUMP Control Rod Stuck

Seems like my No start problem has something to do with the Control Rod being frozen. Took the cap off the front and poked a rod in the hole to see of the rod would freely move back and forth and it won't budge. Would really hate to have to remove the pump. Any suggestions? The car sat over the winter, so I assume that the rod got gummed up (I hope) and stopped moving. Thanks Allan

Allan,
That does not sound good. Sorry to hear that. You have to see more of what's going on inside. I know it's alot of work to remove the pump, but your going to have to at least be able to remove the two side covers so you can see what else is not moving. I really think you need the remove it so you can properly check things out. Just my HO.
Keep us posted.

At the suggestion of Ed Mayo, I took the MFI side cover off and rocked the pistons slowly. Felt like they were in Molasses at first and then it freed up in no time. Rod moves freely and buttoned up the pump. Car started on the second crank. Ducked yet another bullet Thanks Allan
