Replacing left oil feed line for timing chain tensioner
Hi Guys,
On my '78 SC ... I have a slightly leaking oil feed line going from behind the distributor to the oil fed chain tensioner and on to somewhere around the left corner of the engine. I have bought the parts to replace the faulty one. I now realise that I have to remove the distributor to get it fitted. So I've been reading up about the distributor removal and re-fitting. Since the engine is tuned ok at the moment, I do not want to make any adjustments so, I assume the following procedure is OK: 1. Remove distributor cap 2. Move crankshaft pully to Z1 3. Ensure the distributor rotor is at the mark for firing #1 - If not, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees and check again 4. Mark position of distributor lock nut 5. Remove distributor lock nut 6. Carefully pull out the distributor, marking the resting place of the rotor. 7. Replace the oil line stuff 8. With the rotor in posn noted in (6) above carefully slide it back into position 9. Check the rotor is at #1 mark - If not, remove and re-fit again 10.Put the distributor nut back on in the same position as noted in (4) above 11.Put the distributor cap back on. 12.Done So I don't need to check the timing with strobes etc. Is this the right way to do it, or do I have to follow the whole timing adjustment procedure as well? Also put a rag in the hole to make sure nothing drops in the engine.

scribe a line around the hold-down washer so you can put the distributor body back in the same place.
