What was your process of getting that fixed?

Mine's tapping and I need to have a look/see...I fear all of the options/possibilities...I really would like to look myself before taking her in to the pros.

Thank God this group has PLENTY of info to check for such "noises" once the VCs are off....

..I'm sure my butt will be drawn in quite tightly as I drop the VCs, hoping nothing comes out with it....then on to the next checks...hell,.I've ordered every possible part in anticipation of what I might find.....

I hate "taps"...

Doyle

If it is a knock and deep it is a rod. Dose not sound like that.

Might try using a mechanics stethescope. Alternately a long screw driver or rod pressed up against different parts of the motor and the ear will let you hear inside the motor when running.

I would check all the valve clearances. Might also try removing the spark plugs and turn the motor over by hand. Might look at your cooling fan for evedence or nicks of somting being sucked into it. Look around the motor compartment for missing screws etc.

I once had a ticking sound that went away. Not long after I lost a chain tensioner that took out the valves, a piston, rod and the crank.

Thanks, Yes ,I think it is a ''half-speed'' tapping. I have been out of town and not able to get to that car, unfortuanantly, so whenever I get any time I will hopefully diagnose and let the group know what I found. dave

Dave,

I think your problem will become apparent once you've removed the valve covers. Good luck.
