What is this Plug?

Novice mechanic here, exploring in the engine bay. I came across two things that I am not sure they are as intended.

Picture #1 is a plug in the left rear by the fuses. What should this plug into?

Picture #2 is the right side of the air box. There is a round tubular hole that looks like a hose should be connected. Or is it just a hole to breath?

Thanks for the help.

The electrical plug goes into one of the ignitiion component boxes left hand side on the fire wall of the engine compartment. The connector is unique, it only fits one thing.

The air box hole is plugged up with a cover, missing on yours.

I take it your car 80SC is not running.

My car is running great. I bought it a week ago. Had been sitting for most of 4 years.

I should be able to pass emissions next week. Going to drain the gas tank and replace the filter this weekend. Flush brakes and put the new tires on.

But not sure about the plug and the tube in the air box.

I'm guessing its the connector for the external voltage regulator..don't panic. The previous owner most likely had the alternator replaced and the newer version has an internal voltage regulator, hence the external was removed and the connector left to dangle. The tube on the airbox is normal.

What color are the wires on the connector?

The electrical plug is for sure the one that went with the external voltage regulator. The car must have the internal regulated alterntor. Do a quick voltage check at the battery with the engine running, make sure the alternator light is on before you start the engine and off when running. You should see between 13 and 14 volts.

As I said "novice".
How exactly do I do the test. I have an Amp/voltage meter tester.

hook a volt meter across the battery.
