Relocation of fuel pump to smugglers box

I looking to relocate the fuel pump to my smugglers box. I do have a concern that the pump may be slightly higher that the fuel outlet. Will this cause dry starts on the fuel pump. Has anyone done this installation and if possible I would appreciate any photos of the hose routing.

pump

I received the (1979)car as a roller with out fuel pump and the fuel tank (most likely pre1975) has the inlet and outlet in the center. The pump will not fit on the cross beam with interfering with inlet/ outlet.

I have an aftermarket pump (Carter) in the smuggler's box on my 911 and have never had an issue with it being higher than the outlet on the tank. I needed a low pressure pump since I run carbs and most of the aftermarket pumps that would suit the application require vertical placement, so the smuggler's box was the best option.

P.S. The fuel pump goes on the other side of the suspension cross member, closer to the steering rack.

The fuel pump on 73.5 thru 75 CIS cars were located above the left rear wheel--above the tank outlets--so placing yours in the smuggler's box should not be a problem.

be sure to insulate with rubber isolators. otherwise it may soumd like a swarm of bees in the front of your car. even with isolators my aftermarket pump for efi was very noisy. so i mounted dual wahlberg pumps in the fuel tanks utilizing a ford lightning fuel pump hat. very quiet and works very well in my application.

Depends on your pump, some are self-priming and others are not.

Also, make sure you use the check valve if it will be installed above the fuel tank.

My 70T came new from the factory with the fuel pump in the smuggler's box. Rubber mounted
bracket. Have never had any issues. 70 parts catalog shows fuel line routing.
