Installing new sump plate

I have a question. I have just purchased an aluminium replacement sump plate for my 1981 911 SC from Pelicans (I have to say the best on line buying experience I have ever had! So easy. So simple and so quick). Anyway I want to install this beautiful piece of aluminium but was wondering how much oil will leak from the sump when I remove the old pressed metal sump plate?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1243061756.jpg

Why not wait until your next oil change when you would have the plate off anyway?

2-5 qts

Thanks

Good idea to wait for the next oil change

Not necessarily, if you drain the oil you can reuse it, just filter it though a screen. Make sure you use new gaskets and if you are using new studs make sure you clean out and dry the holes really good with some carb cleaner before installing the new studs with some red locktite.

Also install the plate so that the drain hole is not directly under the sump. The drain should be oriented like it is currently in the photo you posted otherwise it will block oil flow.

Welcome to the board. How about a photo of the car?

If you need any local help, post on our regional pelican board - very friendly chaps there as well.

Thanks for the advice

Thanks guys for the advice. I may do the changeover as a project soon. Unfortunately our car is not a daily driver. Not because he could not be but he is stored in Toowoomba at the back of our office, and we live and work in Brisbane. SO I drive him once every three or so weeks. We are trying to get a builder to finish building in under our house so Ferdinand can return home and then I can get onto projects such as replacing this sump plate, getting the heater to work and replacing the shocks with Bilsteins.
