oil temp check best location with infared tester??
Not sure about my temp gauge readings. Where is the best place to check oil temp with infared tester out on the road. I want to check the temp against the gauge so I have a good bench mark in the future, thanks JL

In a nutshell, you cannot get anything reasonable accurate using an infared tester to read oil temps ............
Further, your oil temp guage only samples temps from one spot inside the engine and I can assure you there are places where its a lot hotter than what you see with the guage. My suggestion would be to first confirm that your sending unit matches the guage. Sometimes we'll use an external sender and guage to compare with although the senders must be installed in the same place for this procedure to be accurate .
