M & K pre muffler, cooler engine temps?

Have a 1987 Carrera with stock muffler and Steve Wong Chip, I am considering an M & K pre muffler, Anyone had any experiences with M & K pre-mufflers and oil temps after installation, The word is you lose 10 to 15 degrees in oil temp from not having the converter on any longer, any feed back thanks JL

That number sounds way too generic. I have a "test pipe", and have not noticed any change at the gauge. With the heat shield in place, I'm sure you could find a temp difference right at the valve cover while on a rack, at speed I'm not so sure.

Weekend project !

I'M installing a M&K premuffler tomorrow on my 89 Coupe as well as the Steve Wong chip that i ordered at the same time.Last week i replaced the stock muffler with a Fabspeed one in, two out muffler ,nice piece of work by the way... Not sure though how a premuffler would change anything with the oil temperature ...
If there is a noticeable difference i will post the findings !

I just put in an MK premuffler on a few days ago, if I drive it tomorrow I'll remember to take note of the oil temp and it's relative position to when the cat was on...

+1 when I removed my cat and went to a test pipe i didn't really notice much of ............. anything. But inside my head, I gained 2 hp and lost 3 degrees of oil temp. And 10 pounds ( the car, not me).

I suspect unless one is overpowering the oil cooling system, the thermostat should keep the temp about the same even if there is a gain from radiant heat that might be transfered to the oil from the cat.

I've got the M&K Premuffler on my 87 and can't say I noticed any difference in oil temps and this is the first I've heard of it. It's a great mod.

Did you polish your O2 sensor shield too? Mine was grimy, I really thought it was oxidation, but 2 minutes on the steel wheel and it looked like a mirror, like yours.

I suppose the engine may run a bit cooler but not noticable. Though if you find it does I would be interested in your findings

Having just replaced my oil return tubes, I noticed that the O rings on the left side were a bit more "shrunken", the leaks on the cat side were worse than the other side too.
