Durant repro. problem from our host
I bought a new durant reproduction mirror a few years back from our host for my 69 restore.. Im kinda stumped as to why I cant tighten the allen head bolt that should tighten the mirror itself so it will stay where you adjust it.. anyone else run into this? I bought it a few years ago so Im guessing I wont be able to return it.. just getting around to mounting it now..
This is the kinda thing that just brings your work down to a standstill.. ugh..

I think the ones I bought a couple of years ago did the same thing. IIRC I had to pry out the mirror and get at the end of the bolt that is turning to tighten it.

Im sensing impending doom of my mirror but I'll try anything at this point since its useless unless I want to epoxy it into place.

They are worthless. I've had two on different cars. Even if you can tighten it enough so it stays in place, you can't adjust it in far enough to be usable.
I ended up buying used mirrors and replacing the glass for both cars.

Will the glass fit in an original mirror?

JP i have an original and a repo here and the mirrors are the same size. The original has better chrome and is more shiny but they look very much the same.
Cheers, Ed

The mirror is held in by the black plastic trim piece. Just carefully pry the plastic trim from the housing and the mirror will fall out. Tighten the screw and re-assemble. I ended up putting a minor nick in the plastic trim, so proceed with caution.
The passenger mirror is useless - I had to put a convex mirror on it to be able to see anything. I won't say the view is great out of either, but I've been using them for a couple of years now.
