Post Tools at the track

What do people do with there tools when they are driving at the track ? I guess everyone one is fairly honest, but I would hate to be wrong..I dont want to leave my tools sitting all by them self..As this is my first DE this weekend. It has been taking up brain space Thanks againWayne

Out here people usually just have plastic tubs with lids. Keeps stuff out of the rain and somewhat organized. I've never heard of problems with theft. I suppose if you were really concerned you could buy a box that you could put a padlock on (like a truck storage box), or just lock stuff in your tow vehicle. I wouldn't be too worried about it though. Everybody is there to have fun like you are, I've never had a problem.

I think about this each time I go to an autocross, too. I'm not so worried about any of the other drivers/owners - I think you can trust them like you'd trust a family member.

What I do worry about, though, are people who are not club members "wandering" in and helping themselves to free torque wrenches. These are the same guys who do donuts at our site just for kicks. I don't know how many unwelcome visitors would be on the track at a DE, however.

But to answer your question, I have a Master lock and a bike chain that I use now and then just to keep things from walking off by themselves. I think the easiest precaution you can take if you're worried is to just cover everything up with a tarp. Kind of like your mother used to say, "Don't leave any valuables in plain view."

Track junkies are cool. We have
never had a problem with theft in our
Rocky Mt. Region that I am aware of.
I do know that we all share our tools when
the need arises. Even parts. I once
borrowed a clutch disk from RMR icon
Walt Fricke as mine had just exploded.
Pull an all nighter and was back on the
track Sunday morning. Took the engine
out again, to get the disk back to him.
Sachs honored their warranty too.

Not to worry about theft at PCA DEs
just keep all your stuff close together.
