Sandblasted my Engine Case!
Well, I was going to soda blast my bare engine case, but the place had a long turn-around time. Soo.....
I then thought I'd bead blast it, but hey - if I'm going to do that I may as well just sand blast it because it's a lot cheaper. Thinking even more about it, I decided to fit the cylinders before blasting as then I wouldn't have to hone them afterwards! The results: ![]() ![]()

You guys are seriously no fun!
It was actually a bunch of out of spec, cracked, broken stuff that I decided to make a desk out of. Here's the rough assembly: ![]()

When I saw these in the back of his truck, I just about fell over. Andrew sounded so proud that he just got a sweet deal on the blasting. And there I am trying to unswallow my tongue.

So what was wrong with the cases before you turned them into book ends?

That desk with all those pieces of metal poking out made my kneecaps hurt. How 'bout boxing those in with Lexan, museum-style?

Just for the people who are newbies (and we all were at one time): Sandblasting a case is a very poor idea, as the sand can get trapped in all of the oil passages. Once that happens, you can almost never get them clean (without taking them apart). Stray sand in your motor is a very bad thing, as it will wear the bearings very quickly.
Now, the original cases were indeed "sand cast" I believe, which means that they were case within actual sand. But, this is before any of the oil passages are drilled out and cut. -Wayne
