Strange noice for the doors
Hi guys, I changed motly every little bushing, sticker plates, higes, door stays, pins....and there is still the TIK when I open or close my doors ( both side ).
It happens halfways on each side. I am probably not alone to hear the TIK noice. TY Jack |

It is most likely your door stay hinge pins.

On my car it is the hole in the arm of the door stay through which the hingle pin fits. It is worn so that the hinge pin doesn't make a good friction fit and there is a lot of play. It clacks everytime the arm is yanked. I seem to recall that DarrylD fixed this on his 912 by welding up the hole and re-drilling it.

That tick is the stops built into the door stay so that your door will not fling all the way open when but pause at that point by presenting a resistance, this also slows your door from opening which helps to prevent you from hitting adjacent objects with your door or when parking curbside opening it so wide that a passing car eats it.
The tick is the sound of a perfectly working door, and the ting when it closes means its adjusted correctly.

so the 'tick' (i'd call it a creak) is SUPPOSED to be there?

Yep two clicks, one at about 30 degrees and the other at about 60 degrees from open. As they get worn the clicking will tone down and eventually become less audible, but you will still notice a resistance.
![]() Do your new door strikers make a ting sound? Aloha, Shane

![]() I initially noticed the ting in a video that was posted on this board of a guy in Europe who had completed a very cool restoration of an early car, and he specifically pointed out the ting of the door as it closed, I wish I could find that video.

Jack, have you felt the sheet metal where the door stay attaches to the door and checked for a tear in the metal? That area is notorious for fatiguing over time.
