St. Louis European Car Show 2009 Photo Essay

Nice day for a car show, unfortunately we rolled up about 10 minutes before the rain started, then the memory card was full, then the battery died...
We made the best of it though and got a few good pictures. All shot w/ Pentax K10D and 18-55 lens. No unnatural saturation boosting, highlights, shadows, or blah blah blah, but w/ all of the people there I had to erase a couple of doofuses in Aperture, which I just downloaded tonight so don't expect a lot.

A Lotus 11 campaigned in the 60's at racetracks across the country and has the requisite 15 or so layers of paint to prove it. Purchased by 2 brothers for $150 in the early seventies out of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, never saw daylight again until just recently. What an incredible and epic heap.

What is this?

Lust

And finally, the 288 GTO. Discovering that one of these resides in St. Louis is, to me, on par with finding out that one of your neighbors possesses the Crown of Charlemagne...

Nice pictures, shame abou the weather but the drops on the freshly polished paint do look good.
Supposing that the black 88 is yours, what wheels/spacers and ride height (looks std European) do you have? It looks very good.

Not my 88', but another member Wavey's. His was entered in the show, mine sat sadly out in the parking lot as door ding fodder, ironically we live a couple of miles apart and have what started out as identical cars. I'm sure he can weigh in on the details but he's got a great car with very tasteful and well executed improvements. Maybe mine will be in the show next year, but more than likely we'll put the Z4 'M' Roadster in the show, of all the lux/rare/exotic/euro cars around the place today there wasn't a single Z4M in sight.

Great Pics! The GTO has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Never been lucky enough to see one in person. It's always nice to see what peole are hiding in their garages around town. I was pretty excited to see an SL65 AMG Black Series driving around KC - Bi Turbo v12 - that thing is wide - wow.

Howmet turbine sports racer. Based on a McKee . Two were built to run endurance racers and show off the capabilities of turbine power. Nice to see that car again
It was fast but not competitive as they had to stop for fuel too many times

The owner said it had an Allison (I forget the model number) engine from a Bell military helicopter that was purchased from Brazil in 1968. When he got it they sent it back to Allison for refurb because the centrifical compressor was FOD damaged.

He was driving it up and down the aisles of the show. I took a video of it but my blackberry didn't handle the high frequencies very well.

Thanks for starting the thread Tale! Sorry for the late reply - I currently can't log on with my high speed (Pelican issue?) so I'm uploading on dialup Here are a few more pics, pre-rain.

Here's my Carrera, which was indeed almost identical to Tale's, but his is cleaner underneath, having resided in So Cal all it's life To answer the above, front wheels are the original 7" rears, rear wheels are 8" on 1/4" spacers, Al Reed refinished. Ride height is a bit lower than Euro, pretty damn low and I couldn't go any lower and still drive it on the street. It sits 1 degree nose-down.

More of the awesome GT3, which was parked directly behind me.

One more of the McKee/Howmet/Turbine. The owner said they ran it at Daytona in January, they run it at 62% power, and of course there's no engine braking so it's spooky to drive. Single speed drive. Also had a Goodwood sticker on it.

Great show, but they should publicize it better.
